The .357 magnum as a rifle round was mentioned in another thread/threads.
These are in the 18" barrel range, and I have so far found information that it increases "advertised" velocities by almost 400 fps. over pistol length barrels.

If one was looking for ballistics charts on this use, would you have to make your own, or is there software/books with this information already on it???

Just a thought.

There are MANY on-line ballistic calculators out there. There are also innumerable programs you can install on your computer, ranging from commercial software to shareware to freeware, and now there are ballistic calculator apps for both Android and iPhone smart phones.

Take your pick. I would start by Googling "on-line ballistic calculator"

These guys have done a lot of testing various chamberings from different barrel lengths including 357 magnum

How much gain you get with a rifle depends on what you are comparing it to. Most published numbers for magnum revolver rounds are from 7.5"-8" test barrels. You don't really gain a whole lot if you compare rifles to 8" handguns.

But most people actually use 4"-6" handguns. Those revolvers are no where near advertised numbers and a rifle will increase performance considerably
