Bad Word Redemption

HA! Redemption. When I first started posting here I was chastized, dragged through the streets, tarred and feathered for using a bad word. Ok not really. But I was scolded.

What bad word is that you ask my fellow reloading friends.....

"Recipe"

Well what do we have here??? :D

rec·i·pe/ˈresəˌpē/
Noun:

1)A set of instructions for preparing a particular dish, including a list of the ingredients required.

2)Something which is likely to lead to a particular outcome: "sky-high interest rates are a recipe for disaster".

Looks like load data could easily be called a recipe and in fact is.

Recipe is only a bad word for reloaders who think they have to eat what they make.....or those who mix powders to make a "recipe"....BIG NO NO!

Huh.

I use recipe in conversation. Thought I used it here, too...

I thought you were going to say the really bad word here.......

B-o-o-l-i-t-s

Meh, you're still probably an idiot, and the jargon police will be along shortly to remind you of it.

Do you really think that finding professionals who share your own personal quirks makes it right?

No, it just means that the guys who built the alliant website are just as incompetent as you are.

keep in mind, those guys are based in New england somewhere, and don't talk american.

Nothing personal, just trying to make sure that you don't start thinking that you're smart or something. People who are as insecure and inept as I am can't tolerate that.

That’s all right,,, I got hammered for saying something just as bad here and thought I was going to lose my privileges….
What did I say?
Please have any children look away right now…
45 LONG COLT!

Awwww c'mon Shane!!!! It ain't that bad.

Boolits= as God laid it into the soil, grand old Galena, The Silver Stream graciously hand poured into molds for our consumption.

Bullets= Machine made utilizing Full Length Gas Checks as to provide projectiles for the masses.

The one I got reamed for a few years ago was "CLIP" instead of magazine. I admit I am old and my first semi-auto was a Garrand.....Besides, I was taught that a magazine was a cache of exploding shells and bags of smokeless on a Battleship....or balls, shot and gunpowder on "Old Iron Sides" (no I'm not THAT old....military history buff, yes):)

BTW Ozzieman, 45 Long Colt is a colloquialism that came about when Winchester made a .45 Colt "Government" cartridge that was short....1.1" long with a 230g bullet. Both sizes were on the shelves at the same time. So you approach a clerk to buy a box and tell him you want a box of .45 Colts. He would most likely say Long or Short!

Here's the headstamp on the "Short Colt"

Some people have nothing better to do with their lives but look for someone else that doesn't talk ,walk, act,or do just like their god(themselves),and then try to belittle them to make their ego feel big.
with that said why do some say boolits instead of bullets?same numbers of letters so they're not saving any effort typing.Damn them rebels, why can't they just follow us perfect people.

Do you actually think that you can teach the grammar police something? They don't care if they're right or wrong. They just like to argue. :D

If I call it pop and you call it soda, who is correct? The only real stupid person is the one that doesn’t know there are a number of names for many things.

OK, I'm going to move this out of Handloading and into General Discussion. It seems that it would be more at home there.

And, I have to admit, using the word recipe isn't the first thing that springs to my mind when I think about reloading.

Now praetorian97, that chastising you received must have grown bigger over the months! ;) Here is the thread where it happened http://thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=450929

PawPaw appears to be the only one who brought up the problem with the word "recipe". I believe what he was saying was that a recipe is usually an exact formula for something, but we can't use exact formulas when reloading since no two situations are alike (different guns, different powder lots, etc.). Note that he later used the word himself saying you have to find your own recipe. Explained that way, he is right.

Later on in the thread others defended the word and one didn't, essentially reiterating what PawPaw said.

Five star post! I love me some syrup-thick sarcasm.

Also on topic, I never knew "recipe" was a bad word for reloading. I just call them "loads".

I can see the word "Recipe" being used in referrence to a "Load." After all we do mix a little of this and a little of that and press it all together. Then we hope we don't blow our face off. I do have a hic-up when I see Clip used for every thing thats not a stripper clip or an enbloc clip.
