Bad Swiss or Good Goex?

I've been shooting a pound of Swiss with great results over the last few months. Today, I shot Goex for the first time and I think that it has alot more power than the Swiss....not that the Swiss was poor performing at all, it just seems like the Goex has more umph using the same charge. The only thing I can think of is that the store JUST got the Goex in a couple days prior and it's super-fresh from the factory and the Swiss may have been sitting in their magazine for a few years.

On a related note, I just decided to take along a set of needle files for filing down my hammer sight between loads. By the end of the day, I could drop nearly all the balls in the head of the target at 15 yards....woot!

I shoot mostly Swiss 3F in my .45 flintlock and have observed that more Goex is needed to get the same POI at distance. I haven't shot either through a chrono which would probably be definitive.

Age is not a factor. It is with the subsitutes. But both Goex and Swiss are real black powder.
Your experience is contrary to what really happens when Goex and Swiss are tested side by side. Swiss is a higher grade powder and will give 10% to 25% more 'oomph' for the same charge than Goex. Of course both must be same grade. e.g. for pistol use 3Fg.
But, go with what you like. Use up what you have on hand it won't go bad.
