Bad Raging Bull and Poor Service

Well I got my Raging Bull back about a week ago, and just came back from testing it today.
I loaded it up and prepared to fire in DA mode first. I sqeezed thetrigger and CLICK. I continued in DA mode for 2 full turns around the 5 shot Cylinder 3 of the 5 rounds fired the two unfired showed that primer strikes are way off center on the edge of the primers. Disgusted I continued I re-loaded and set out to fire it in SA mode. cocked and tripped the trigger 5 times and got 3 bangs for my effort. It is still apparently un-locking under recoil and turning slightly back causing the already fired chamber to be re-advanced under the hammer the next time it is cocked.

For anyone not familliar with my story this is the second time I've paid shipping and insurance to taurus (about 37 dollars). i have now e-mailed them to let them know how displeased I am. ( barely remained on the edge of civility) Now what do I do how can I get rid of the junk gun? I couldn't in good conscience sell this garbage to another un-suspecting sucker, I would have to tell any prospective buyers about the long list of failings and then what hope do I have of making hte sell? I'm jsut plain PO'ed, I feel safe in saying I'll never waste my money on another of their products, it would even have been different if they had gotten it fixed but, to have sent it in twice and still have a peice of junk, grrrrr.

I've had experience with other company's repair centers. I sent a Rossi 971 in for repairs once got it back it worlked properly. Ive sent in a savage and got it back in working order. i once sold a Ruger MkII that failed to chamber hollow points They completely rebuilt and replaced the gun it was a commemorative version so they destroyed the old gun and rebuilt and re serial numbered a new one. Why does Taurus have to be so $^!((*.

Any chance you can return it for a full money back refund? Do you know your dealer that well?

I've bought over 40 guns from my local guy, so I know he would take care of me, but your mileage may vary...

I opted for the Ruger Super Redhawk over the Taurus in .454, I think the Taurus has cleaner lines, but I chose the Ruger for its reliability.

I hope everything works out for you!

I HAVE A TAURUS

But it's a PT22.

Would you really buy a Taurus 454 CASULL?

There's this new company that makes REALLY STRONG ACCURATE revolvers at great prices; it's called "Ruger".

I think they have a web-site.....

Frankly, I don't know WHAT your next step is. Some people have posted that when they needed service, Taurus was top-notch, However, when I needed service, the rep from Taurus USA HUNG UP on me twice. This was quite mystifying as I was being nice and just trying to get a problem quickly resolved. (It was right before Christmas and maybe she was busy.) I was lucky in that a very lightly Smith&Wesson in the caliber I wanted came in as a trade on a new Sig and I snapped it up. I'm very leery of Taurus service now. I wouldn't buy another Taurus. My wife does have a nearly perfect Taurus Total Titanium .38 special, but I'm slowly convincing her that she needs to trade for another brand.
I will say this. In cases like yours, where the pistol has to keep going back to the factory, I've read posts where Taurus replaced the gun. Also, I've read posts that said Taurus sent a "call-tag" and had FedEx pick it up at your house for free shipping.
Good luck...I feel bad for you. It's a real disappointment to get a lemon.

P.S. "I couldn't, in good conscience, sell this to another sucker"--Good for you. I feel the same way. I couldn't sell a lemon and pat myself on the back either. The main purpose of these things is protecting your life! I have a couple that I've burried deep in my safe hoping to never see again. I thought about trading or selling, but I couldn't do it. I can barely sleep as it is.

Well folks After having to search for a E-Mail to contact them I sent a E-Mail it came back un-deliverable I gues they don't really want feedback. i'll try the phone route but, I've got my doubts about success at this point I'm not open to a replacement piece from them, and I seriously doubt they'll replace it with a Ruger. I'll try to get them to refund my money though.

As far as taking it back where I got it well it was bought by me on my FFL before I quit the FFL thing, and I don't want it back :).

Weshoot2 I would have got the Ruger in the first place except I wanted a shorter bbl and Taurus had the 5". I am now planning though to get a ruger and either get them to cut it down for me or get the pilot I need from Brownells and cut it down myself, I think 4 1/2 " ought to be just right.

BY the way are there by any chance speed loaders that will work in the ruger?

As far as the Taurus goes if they won't make good ie; but it back then I'll try my hand at repairing it I thought all along that I could probably do it it was just hte idea of buying a brand new gun and having it not work. I f I can make it work then I'll sell it if not then I guess I can always use it as a trot line weight.

By the way did I mention that I know Taurus took the side plate off whenthey had it, I can tell because the screws are boogered up. Now that is shoddy work .

S&W model 29 speedloaders (six shot N-Frame .44Mag) work in the Taurus Redhawk and SuperRedhawk in .44, .45LC and 454Casull calibers :).

What's going on is that the rim thickness is smaller on the .45s than on the .44Spl/Mag series. While the shell body diameter is different, the rim diameter is very similar if not identical.

I was the one that predicted it would work, others on TFL actually tried it and confirmed.

I can suggest a possible fix. When the S&W Model 29's were doing that, sometimes a heavier cylinder stop spring would take care of the problem. IIRC, on the Taurus, the cylinder stop spring and plunger are inset into the bottom arm of the crane (Taurus calls it the "yoke") and the spring is easy to replace without any disassembly other than removing the crane. I can't tell you how stiff to make it; only suggest taking several springs and a wire cutter to the range and work on it there. Good luck.

Thanks for the repair suggestions if it doesn't get replaced or refunded by Taurus I'll try it.

called Taurus this morning The coustomer service rep i talked to was ....OK althoughas usual she doesn't have many answers to give but, she did seem to want to be helpful. As far as a refund she said it will have to be examined by a review board. Now whether she means the case or the revolver I couldn't tell you. What they are going to do is later this week when I can give them a 4 hour window of availability I'm supposed to call them again and they will send Fed Ex by to get it. And they'll look at it again.

I indicated I wasn't much intrested in getting it back again because of the trust issue and that I had hoped to have it when and if I get to go to Alaska where it may be called on to do a bear. thats when she told me it has go to a review board. I guess we'll see. At any rate if I can get one that works fairly well i can sell it and get the ruger.

Yikes! I just sent mine in for a cylinder replacement (had some spalling on the face). Hope I'm not in for a ride.

Yeah, before she hung up on me...

..I got the old "Review Board" speech also. I wish you luck, my friend. My Taurus was supposed to be a Christmas gift. When I asked if the "review board" could make a decision before Christmas is when she hung up. I've had some pretty famous guys write letters to Taurus on my behalf and Christmas was almost a month ago. Still no response from Taurus. I really don't think Taurus cares enough about their customers. It's a shame, too. With the S&W situation, Taurus is passing up a great opportunity to really move ahead.

A MATTER OF TRUST

I trust Ruger to sell me a real strong gun. If it breaks I trust them to fix it.

So far so good.

(Please note what specific guns get used as base guns from Reeder, Bowen, Linebaugh, etc...)

Lots of guys at our club have had similar BAD experiences with Taurus. They send them back and they are returned just the same or worse than before. A few guys have been lucky, but most have not. I use Rugers and Smiths, and have sent a few back...but they were always properly fixed.

Apology

Apology for the multiple posts; I was having some problems with the server, but they appear to be fixed. I tried to delete the extras but was told I was not logged in!

No problems out of mine. I have the 8". I shoot 200 or so rounds in a session. It has been more reliable and more accurate than my buddy's Freedom Arms Premiere grade (FA broke with a light load).

As for Ruger, I had a 45LC blackhawk that bit the dust, while a $50 Iver Johnson consumed boxes of the same ammo. Maybe they've changed their warranty policies, but they sucked to deal with at the time.

If they send a new one, don't fret about selling it to someone; all my Tauruses have been satisfactory for budget pieces.

write a letter

That's what I did after I sent them an OLD Taurus .38 with a peened cylinder. They said that they could not fix it, but would send me a new one at a "reduced rate". Not! I questioned their 100% satisfaction promise, let them know how many guns I buy per year, how I would spread the word about their bad service, and to ship back my old gun so I could get a few bucks and buy from a QUALITY manuf. Shortly after receiving my letter their customer service dept. advised me that they would send me a NEW .38 at no charge! True, I should not have had to go to that extent to be properly taken care of, but it worked. Let them know you are serious.

Bob Morrison is supposed to be the "big wheel" at Taurus USA...

I sent him an e-mail yesterday asking him to look at this thread. The e-mail address was pretty current because some of the guy's who wrote him for me used the address, but it bounced. Maybe he got a few e-mails and decided to change his address. Maybe there was another reason it bounced. I don't guess I'll find out, but I've got a few "feelers" out. If I find out anything, I'll post it.

Well i have written a fairly long letter to include with the gun when fed ex comes and get it. And it does include my internet friends as well as the fact that I am, due to friends family and people met in my LE career, very often asked for my opinion on guns planned to be purchased. Along wih numerous other things, and it is written much more couteuosly than i had anticipated I be able to do when I got a click my first squeeze of the trigger.
Now unfortunately though I can seem to get the gun picked up. I called them first thing Wednesday morning to have them send Fed Ex. They told me they would have them there that same day between noon and 4 PM, I skipped sleep and waited for them (had just gotten off a 12 hour shift at the jail) They never showed up and of course by the time I knew they weren't coming it was too late to call Taurus back so this morning first thing I called them I was told then that they had set it up for today, I let them know they had now wasted both ofg my days off for me but, that I would wait for them to come pick it up, again between noon and 4 PM. It is now 6:33 PM and I still haven't seen a Fed Ex truck. I won't be able to wait up for them tommorrow because I have to work tommorrow night and a twelve hour shift really does require some rest before hand.

Looks like I'll be out another ups fee to get it back to them.

Bright side is I've priced a Ruger SRH 454 and can get it for LESS than I paid for the Bull, I was quoted $565 and they will work with me if Taurus insists on sending me another Bull instead of a refund. Allthough they mentioned that they don't like them either they have one they have sold about three times but it keeps coming back.

Oh well I'll update when I can.

Thanks KR for your efforts and everyone else to for your support. If they keep yanking me around I may ask my internet freinds to do a postcard campaign to wake them up. An active E-mail adress would sure be better though.

Well 4 days ago the Fed Ex man delivered a new Raging Bull There is no note or anything with it other than an invoice showing it is a replacement and it's serial no. and the old guns serial no. There is nothing else form them in there. No sorry for hte inconvienience and no refund for the more than $100 spent sending the other one back to them.

I was very surprised becaus if they sent me a different gun I was expecting to have to have it sent to a FFL dealer. I guess this is actually a moot point though cause it's going to one anyway I negotiated a trade for the "new" Bull and $90 for a new SRH 454. Now all I'll have to do is cut the SRH bbl to the 5" lenght I want and I can do it all I need is a pilot for my facing and crowning cutters.

Well anyone considering a Taurus be advised it may look cost efficient but, if you have problems the cost of shipping can substantially raise the cost of your gun very quickly. Not to mention the headaches and loss of trust issues. I have no idea if the one they sent me will work and to preserve it's trade in value I intend no testing, but, I'll ask the FFL to let me know if they have problems withit.
