Bad Idea?

I doubt the cube itself would cause ricochets but rocks on/in the ground certainly could, as could frozen soil.

EDIT: :o Sorry, didn't see/retain the part about making it of steel...just fixated on the plastic one in the link. I agree that a steel one would cause ricochets.

Steel? Absolutely.

I attend IDPA-style matches with large 'popper' steels that fall over. I only use lead in my 45, but even so you can hear the splatter hit the trees behind me about 150' away. Get just the right angle and all that comes right back to you.

I wouldn't do it.
 
I bought one of these a while back. Rounds passed right through alright, just no cube bouncing off wildly; at all. .22lr, .45auto, .223remington it just sat there, occasionally moving a little, but mostly letting the rounds pass on through quite nicely.

Perhaps I got one that was from a "bad batch" of material, too soft?

Take that for whatever it is worth, from a sampling of one.
