Background checks?

I've been wanting to buy a ruger MkII (SS, 5.5" bull barrel, new or used, doesn't matter) for some time (and a couple other guns.....), but I can't standthe idea of this defacto registration.

Is it true that I have to get checked out just because the local ffl recieved a weapon for me, when that weapon was sold by a regular joe and not a store?

I bought my 1911 new and now my name is recorded on some FBI/CIA/NSA/BATF database somewhere. I don't like it and don't want to repeat it, but I can't find any local joes with the guns I'd like to have.

Your thoughts?

Who cares about being on lists!!If I hope you are a NRA member, get gun magazines and post here how many lists do you think you are on?Do you write letters like you should?
Stand up and be counted because that way
you will have a lot of company.
PS I allso see you shoot IDPA!What list does that put you on?

Several people I know worry about having to go through the 4473 process. Not because they have criminal records, have something to hide or can not legally buy a gun. Nor is it because they harbor a distaste for participating in a process that they feel is in violation to the constitutional rights. They do not want to do it for fear of having their name placed on The List. With 80 million gun owners and at least a thousand times that many "registed" guns it would be an over whelming task for ATF (or anyone) to seek out all gun owners that have completed a 4473.
