How many of you carry a BUG and what kind? I've been thinking about getting one of those NAA mini revolvers since the only gun that's around the right size that I currently own is a PF9, and a Glock 21 + a PF9 (and extra mag for both)
is a little overkill.
I carry my Glock 33/paddle holster or my Kel-tec PF9/IWB on my strong side, depending on what I'm wearing, and usually my Diamondback DB-380 in my weakside front pocket...
I'd shy away from any single action type handguns(revolvers) as a 2nd gun. Derringers & "mouse guns" may seem cute or cool but I'd question how safe or practical they'd be in a serious use of force event.
A better plan would be to carry a semi auto pistol with a smaller model as a BUG that takes the same full size magazines.
Or as in the 1970s/1980s/1990s, you could tote a medium size .357magnum revolver with a J frame or SP101 in .38spl. You could carry a few 5/6 round "speed strips" then use the spare rounds in either revolver.
Not trying to hijack but Bill have you had any problems with your db? I'm going to carry a BUG once I decide which to buy first a it will either be a Bersa or DB. I will own both but i just started the saving phase now that Christmas shopping is done. I can't comment on overkill as I also carry a SOG multi tool with a knife and still feel the need to carry a pocket knife.
I just can't see a situation where I would want a BUG. If my main handgun (Springfield XD subcompact) misfires, I can rack in another round much quicker than I could draw a BUG. For the same weight, I'd rather carry another magazine for my Springfield than a BUG>
Some say they carry a BUG in case they are pinned and can't get to their main gun. If the BG is that close to me, I think I'd rather have my knife. Besides its easier to use my knife to open packages than a LCP.
Just my opinion of course, but that's how I equip myself.
A BUG is a Back Up Gun. And with my permit, I can carry weapons within my class without restriction; meaning I could walk around with two pistols in belt holsters open carried, with two more IWB, two in ankle holsters, and two more in shoulder rigs and be well within my rights to do so. Maybe not well within my MIND, but that's another issue.
I carry a compact 9mm, a pocket knife, and a tactical blade that I am trained with in self defense. My closest back up gun is a small .38 revolver that's in the car I came it.
How many, and what kinds of weapons a permit holder can carry varies by state. Some only allow a specific handgun. Some allow only one handgun, but it could be any legal handgun. Some don't limit the number of handguns.
Other states allow knives, asps, sprays, Tasers, etc.
Handgunlaw.us is a good site for finding those types of restrictions.
