Back to basics - How to get a handgun (or other gun) you can't find locally

Several pistols I'm interested in bring this issue up.

OK, this involves two phases - (1)where to shop to find the seller with one in stock, and (2) the procedure for getting the gun to my local FFL.

Phase 2 I pretty well understand. What I want to know is "Where are the biggest online 'stores' where guns of all types and makes can be found, with the widest selection possible?". My searches don't seem to help much. At present I want to know where to buy Steyr pistols, Kel-Tecs, Phoenix Arms .22s, and Springfield 1911s.

the online version of the shotgun news has a list of dealers in your area AND WHAT THEY CHARGE for a transfer.. ie 10% or $15. not a bad bonus.

On line Shotgun News is good, also try Bachman Gun & Pawn. Futo, you are in OKC, if I remember correctly, and Joe Davis in Bethany at C&J Sporting Goods on 38th St. will do transfers for about $20, IF YOU DO ALL THE WORK. Get a copy of Shotgun News and Gun List for many possibilities. Joe orders from many suppliers and if you have trouble finding something he can probably get it from RSR, FBF, or one of the other big distributors.

As we talk, I'm looking at my Metalife hard chromed HKP7 PSP that only cost me $699 compared to the local Seattle price of $900-$950. I saves several hundred dollars by asking around on the Net and boards like this if people had seen a P7PSP in their local gun store. A guy on this board said yes and the hunt was over. I bought it sight unseen on the word of another TFLer who was right on the money. Great gun. Gun dealers are starting to get used to selling coveted and hard to find guns over the phone with credit cards. No problem.

Process:

Agree on price, shipping, and return options
Send signed FFL paper to shipping FFL with certified check or credit card number
Receiving FFL calls you when gun arrives
Pick it up
Get it, shoot it, test it, keep it
Be happy!

Better than an auction. And more trustworthy. Buying between individuals you don't know is dangerous. With an FFL, I can fink on him to the ATF and get his butt audited. But with private parties, you're in the twilight zone.

Ask around. They can at least check it out for you. Worked for me!

As the Sharpshooter said, it is best to go through dealers, just have your FFL send a copy signed in ink with the (certified) funds to the selling FFL. FFLs, unlike us regular folks, can send firearms to other FFLs in the US, as long as individuals are not directly sending and/or receiving.

I just bought a Sig from a dealer in FL, I live in PA. $20 for the transfer from my local FFL is cheaper than the PA sales tax. I should have it by the middle of next week.

BTW, I found the dealer on gunsamerica.com. Prior to this, I had sold 2 guns and bought two, all from individuals through GA without the slightest problem.

Futo, you will find some of the best on line prices at the following: www.bachmangun.com www.championfirearms.com www.kyimports.com www.ultout.com
There is no lowest price dealer among these as their prices differ on different guns. I have bought from Bachman, Champion and Ultout and each transaction went without a hitch. These three dealers are good, honest people. I am sure other people will have other sites to suggest for you. Good luck and let us know which dealer you select.
