Back Boring ????

I was read the Vang Comp web page and it stated that two modifications help reduce recoil on their shotguns. One was the compensating ports (understand that one) and the other was the "back boring". I do not know exactly what "back boring" is and I am puzzled as to how it can reduce recoil. If anyone here can enlighten me, I would appreciate it.

Back boring is just opening the bore up slightly to reduce friction on the shot charge. It will also reduce pellet deformation. The reduction in friction will allow the payload to slide down the bore and exit the muzzle with less rearward push (recoil). That kind of a simplified explanation. :D

It will also reduce pellet deformation.-mtnboomer

I think this is the real benifit of back boring. This helps to keep the shot together, which means more concentrated shot patterns down range. The reduced felt recoil may be an added benifit.

If you really want to reduce preceived recoil, then get one of the Knoxx stock variations. They do an amazing job.

I'm not convinced that compensating ports on a shotgun do anything but increase the noise. YMMV
