Awesome self-defense story from a WWII veteran

Earl Jones, a 92 year old WWII Army Air Force veteran, was home alone sitting in his chair. He had been victimized twice already this year when intruders broke into his home. Mr. Jones lives in a rural area, and with help being too far away, he was at the mercy of the violent home invaders that kept victimizing him. Suddenly he heard the door of his basement being kicked in for the 3rd time this year, but Earl Jones was ready this time around. Choosing to no longer be a victim at the mercy of home invaders, he had with him a .22LR rife.

The war hero calmly got his .22LR rifle, sat back in the chair, and waited for the inevitable showdown with the home invaders. Suddenly three well built young men in their 20's burst into the home intending to prey on the frail WWII veteran. But Mr. Jones calmly raised his rifle as the men began to rush him, and carefully aimed for the heart of the invader that was closest to him. He shot Lloyd Maxwell (one of the criminals) in the heart, instantly killing him with one shot. In doing so, Earl Jones most likely saved his life. His only regret was that he couldn't shoot the two other criminals before they had a chance to flee (some might consider this statement from Mr. Jones to be controversial, but the man is a WWII veteran and is sick of being terrorized in his own home by younger men much stronger than him, so I understand his frustration.)

I just read a different article that claims Mr. Jones was an aircraft mechanic who worked on the Enola Gay during WWII, which is the aircraft that dropped the first nuclear bomb. Needless to say, looks like Mr. Jones played a vital and important role in WWII.

God bless the greatest generation on Earth, and I am very thankful that Mr. Jones is safe and sound, and free to enjoy the remainder of his life in peace. It's a shame though that he had to resort to this in order to save himself. It would have been nicer if he could have lived his remaining years without having to worry about being victimized.
 
Unfortunately, the police took his rifle as evidence. It seems that's the only firearm he owns, and he is now concerned that he's defenseless.

I'd happily contribute a few bucks to a fund to buy him a new rifle.
 
$50,000 worth of firearms? I missed that. I did see that he had been robbed multiple times before, and I remember reading about the 90 head of cattle, but I didn't see anything about $50,000 worth of firearms. He told one reporter the police took the rifle he used, and then he asked what he was supposed to use to protect himself.
 
I guess this episode is a plug (no pun intended) for stainless home-defense guns. Anybody know of an evidence room where the employees care enough to oil or wipe down the gun of a citizen like Mr. Jones? Poor old fella might get a rust-bucket back when they decide to return it. Gutsy to rely on a .22. I'm not that gutsy.
 
He used what he had and he won. Once that is out the punks will probably look of softer targets.
 
I know of a woman in Detroit who defended her family during the riots. She killed one guy with a 22 auto-loader rifle. The rest of the bandits ran out of the house.

I live one county over from where this happened and obviously it was big news around here for several days. I don't think that Mr. Jones will be charged, but the sticky part of this story is that he knew they were in his basement and rather than call the police, he waited 15 minutes to see if the were going to come up stairs to his first floor. Despite what the Daily Mail wrote, they didn't rush him but as the first robber walked through the door way, Mr. Jones fired.

I am not sure how those 15 minutes will play out legally but I hope that Jones isn't charged.
