AWB - Here they go again... CBS TV "News"

Dan Blather - Rather - ran a piece about some guy running a school for kids - shotgun skeet training, etc. The he launches into the ban - including Bushmaster pictures, etc (EBR's), DC sniper, and that the ban expires next week. Adds that the Prez will sign for the extension (as is) but the Republican congress won't move to extend/renew/add-on.

This is - just anything to stir the pot. Get people all atwitter, calling their reps.

So... is there anything new about the ban or are we really set to coast in?

This is just one, maybe the main one, of the reasons that Fox News Channel is getting more and more viewers. The American people are getting where they don't like to get lies for "news."
 
I saw it. I just got done sending CBS an email for reporting such a biased piece.
No talk of what exactly the ban does, but how it still allows such evil weapons to exist. Nothing on how the ban doesn't work.
There was also a segment of how much John Kerry is for the second amendment. Once again nothing on his recent vote to ban centerfire rifle ammunition. Not one word on his voting record.
There was one more segment on how John Kerry doesn't flip-flop; how it is a ploy concieved by Bush. Wish CBS would just run Kerry 04 banner on the bottom of the screen. That way people would know where CBS really stands on the issues.

Various gun organizations are reporting that the antis are going to
try one last push to get President Bush and Congress to cave in and pass an extension to the Assault Weapons Ban (AWB).

They are planning a large call-in on September 9th.

We are so close to actually watching the AWB monstrosity die on September 13th that we probably shouldn't take any chances.

Thanks to Bob Marcellus for making sure the information on the call-in was brought to my attention and to the Second Amendment Sisters for an alert they sent out.

VCDL, let's make sure that our voices drown out those who don't believe in our precious freedoms! An important victory is almost within reach - a roll-back of the AWB will be a well-deserved crushing blow to the Brady Bunch and their cronies.

That looks like a "I'm for ban renewal" story. Bush and Republican house are holding it hostage; every "important" and/or "professional" group supports renewal; major conglomerations of plain folks support renewal, etc., etc. ad infinatum.

Don't forget that the Big, Bad NRA is using its unlimited resources to blackmail congresspeople into getting rid of it, to allow criminals to buy fully automatic Ak-47s and UZIs. ;)

I didn't see Rather...I rarely watch TV.

This really irks me, Having been married at one time to a Nurse, [Pediatric Ns] and I myself having volunteed there where she works - add - my working in a main OR in another Hospital...
Criminals had guns no matter the law. Kids were hurt because adults were NOT armed, able to protect their kids, or themselves...

Messages sent to my Congressman and Senators.....won't do any good with Senators Mikulski and Sarbanes. Mikulski doesn't even return an acknowledgement....at least Sarbanes does. Both are heavily in favor of all gun control.

I left the TV on CSPAN last night as they were debating aid for Florida. I had a sneaking suspicion that someone was going to try to slip in some cries for AWB renewal. Sure enough, McCarthy from NY and some woman from Texas were decrying the "fact" that fully automatic weapons will be on the streets as of next week. :mad:
 
Expect to see, hear, feel all kinds of anti flack these next few days. VA Pilot editors just came out - again. The antis' last hurrah is on, now till the ban dies or is acted upon. These group and media "people pushers" have a political, not a safety, agenda... they have their followers buffaloed with fear, smear, and tear tactics.

I have a hard time understanding why, in a time of crisis such as these past few years, that there are those strong forces who want us, as a nation, disarmed. In a world of only two positions - them or us - only strength will survive. Either they don't comprehend that in a "them or us" world it can't be them - or ...".

They need a major defeat to take the wind out of them - this AWB sunset will set them back, but I fear it won't end it. We'll have to keep working at it; in fact we'd best be seriously teaching and preparing our kids - soon it'll be their turn to "work at it".

Gary, that is the scary part. A lot of people don't. I didn't until a few years ago and many of my friends still don't. There is also a lot of apathy amongst the majority of people. That is why the few, who scream the loudest, controls the silent majority and not the other way around.
