Can one of you point me to a thread or info on how to obtain an original GI issue 1911? I've shot a number of them including match pistols (WOW) and am considering trying to pick one up.

Knowing next to nothing about the original GI WWII 1911's can one be found in good shape that does not cost a fortune?

I just gotta have the original REAL issue, somehow, some way.

Someone out there knows a lot and I'd appreciate your info.

DSK is the resident expert on 1911s that you're looking for, you should hopefully hear from him soon. He gave me some good info. on my father's Ithaca 1911 he brought back from WWII.
Check out his website in the meantime:

Edit: had to take out the www in the link. Should work now.

There's a whole slew of them for sale on Gunsamerica; anywhere from $800 to $4000 and beyond depending on rarity and condition.

Alright alright, I'm awake now.

22lovr, your hardest task is going to be finding one that hasn't been altered or refinished, yet still advertised as "original". If you're going to get just one it might as well be a nice one. The proices have risen dramatically in the last few years, but if you get a plain-jane and not some rare bird you shouldn't be looking at more than $1000 or so. I think your best bet would be a Remington Rand or Ithaca. They were among the most common wartime .45's, and their quality is up there with a Colt. If you do end up finding a good Colt, expect to pay somewhere between $1200 to $1600 for one. As for where to find one, gun shows and online auctions are the easiest. Just be patient and don't buy the first one you see, at least not without knowing what you're looking at first. My site has lots of tips on what to look out for. Good luck!
