Hi all, I'm brand new here. And no expert by no means.
Just thought I would ask, since there seem to be some very knowledgeable folks that hang around in here.

I think the USAS-12 came select fire in a few cases..

Anyway, I wouldn't expect more than a handful of them out there. If he does have one, it may or may not be legal.

BTW, it's called "select fire", not switchable.

tanks for the reply 3ard

I stand corrected on the term. And anyway, I coined the reference(switchable) myself.(see post opener about not being any expert) lol
The shootin iron in question is either a Rem or a Browning, I crs.

Edit:Okay, I just saw a pic of the one you mentioned and it is nowhere close. The one I saw looked like an oridinary hunting weapon.

Are you sure he didn't say convertible between semiauto and pump-action? 'Cause the're two shotguns like that, the Benelli M3 Convertible and the Franchi SPAS-12 (actually there's another one, the SPAS-15, but that doesn't look so conventional.)

Anyway, the only fullauto shotguns I know of that are supposed to be fullauto are the USAS-12, Pancor Jackhammer, and the H&K CAWS. I know plans for converting the Remington 1100 to select-fire used to be available, but that would be not only illegal, but impractical and painful.

The safety. That's all it was.

Maybe it has a really light trigger and he bump-fires? Ouch... Shotgun and bump-firing... ow.

There are several full auto or select fire shotguns. One of the first was the Atchisson Assault-12. The Remington 7188 (derived from the model 1100) featured select fire as did the Foote assault shotgun. And a large number of semo-auto shotguns can be converted to full auto fire.

In Elmer Kieth's autobiography, he mentioned that while he was inspecting guns for the guv'mint in WWII, some office clowns started converting semi auto shotguns to full auto after he had approved them, just to make him look bad. Anyone remember what kind of gun they were? Is it at all possible one could have found its way into private hands too?

He did find a way to shoot them though. He had his wife stand behind him, and when he started firing she'd push forward on his shoulder to keep the recoil from pushing him back! :D

im trying to find the purpose for a full auto shotgun... im sure it would be quite powerful.. but with a shotguns limited magazine you would run out of ammo quite fast... having owned a SPAS 12 absolutely awesome shotgun... u can crank out 9 rounds of buckshot in under a few seconds... alot of fun.. not much good for bird hunting tho heh... its more of a people hunter =) and well worth the money. think i paid like 650$ for it or something like that, it was a while back, but it was alot of fun... i used it for armed security work.. i wont get into details but it was needed.
