Thanks! I did a search through Yahoo, only came up with one and it was pretty lame. Gimme a car with a carb, points & condenser and no computer and I can fix it. I gotta look hard to find the spark plugs on this thing.

LOL!
I used to have a '78 Bronco that I could work on....well, OK, I could take it apart, to be exact (but I knew what I was taking apart). But then I got a new Subaru.
Me at dealership, looking under hood:
"Uhhh..... (scratching head).....HUH?"

I havent been in auto repair for a few years, but still moonlight a bit. What is your question?
I am sure there are others here who can help you too>
(if it is appropriate to discuss this subject on TFL)
Well, I'm a fair jack-leg mechanic, but no expert on today's electronified beasts, but if she happens to have a Corvair, I'd be happy t help her in any way I can. Anything I don't know about them , I know where to look up or whom to ask. crankshaft

Thanks again for the responses. It's an '89 Beretta, starts & idles fine but dies when it's put in gear (auto trans). Went to the "All experts" site and it was suggested to check the transmission lock-up solenoid. Now if I can just find the solenoid I might me in business.
Had two Corvairs myself back in high school days, favorite was a '68, orange with Cragar mags.

The solenoid is in the transmission pan on the bottom of the transmission, my guess is it is A TH 125 (is it an over drive? or a 3 speed auto?) there is also a pan on the back(drivers side) of it try removing the 4 pin blue square plug on the front of the transmission (drivers side near the cooler lines going to the radiator) to see if it is an electronic malfunction. Otherwise you will have to pull the bottom pan and change the solenoid it is held to the valve body by 2 10 mm bolts and has the wires from the connector going to it!
There are other possable trans problems too, if these easy fixes do not work i can explain some other T Shooting steps.
