Auto-Ordnance WWII Parkerized reviewed

Nice to see my favorite pistol get a favorable review. I didn't think I would, but I actually like the plastic grips they come with.

I like the fact that this gun comes with the proper arched MS housing with lanyard loop, straight up and down slide serrations and the military safety. After a bad experience with the original AO in the '80's, I'd love to own this gun!

Good to hear. I keep wanting to try their replica M1 Carbines now that GI model prices have gun crazy. They seem nice in the store. I also shot an Auto Ordnance 1911 probably 3 years back. I was actually pretty impressed with it. It wasn't fancy, but it seemed pretty true to the original design and for a rental gun it ran fine despite no shortage of abuse.

I have had one of these guns for about six years and have had no problems with it at all. It is a pretty accurate copy of the original gun it emulates and is an accurate shooter too. I like mine very much. I also have an AO M1 carbine that is every bit as good as the 1911A1.

I really appreciate all of the feedback.
I was not sure how this pistol was going to shake out but it did very well. Like I said, the only thing I did not like was the supplied magazine. Using solid magazines and the gun ran great. The supplied magazine did not like to feed JHP but it had an odd follower.
For the money it would be tough to beat.

I don't understand why these guns use an extended grip frame. This was an issue with the Essex frames. It's very possible that Essex makes these frames for A/O. Notice the space on front of the grips. You can spot these a mile away.
While the frames are very good, I can't understand why they are made this way.

The pictured gun is not recent production.
A-O has done a lot of work to make the appearance of their M1911A1 closely replicate that of a WWII pistol.

the machining around the grips looks way off, are the new mfg. slides & receivers on AO pistols made of forged or cast steel?
