Has anyone had any experience with the Auto Ordinance Tommy Guns? http://www.auto-ordnance.com

I am playing with the idea of buying one. I would like the 1927A1 with the circular magazine. Why does this magazine only hold 10 rounds? It looks like it would hold alot more than 10.....

How is the quality of these new Tommy Guns?
Thanks.

The magazine only holds ten rounds because there is a 1994 federal law limiting new magazines to ten rounds except for police and military. But so many people want a drum magazine so the gun will look "right" that the maker puts out a drum that meets the legal requirements but looks good. Note that the old 50 and 100 round drums WILL NOT fit the new semi-auto guns, and the old 20 and 30 round mags will fit only if reworked.

(Reworking the original drum magazines is not to be considered; the 50 rounders go for $400 or so and the 100 round for well over $1000.)

Overall quality of the guns I have seen is pretty good, and they seem reliable. Since they fire from a closed bolt, unlike the old guns, they are hard to cock, but otherwise seem OK.

The magazine they are providing is "grandfathered" meaning that it was produced prior to the ban so it is still legal to own and buy in some areas (state law in places like california have limited this). No new mags are being manufactured.

I have had an A.O. 1927A1 for several years and have no problems with it. It is resonable accurate for a gun that weighs 8-10 lbs! I also have a A.O. 50rd drum that fits the '27A1 with NO modification and the 30rd mag's the hole has to be elongated which is not a problem if you do it slowly. The 50rd drum is a type"L" and is made to fit the full-auto '28 or '21.
