Bought a new Beretta AL 390. Took it apart, and now i think it may not be going back together correctly....

When the action is open the piston slides around on the inside...this is my first auto shotgun.

What am I doing wrong?

Is there supposed to be a seal on the piston? Is it supposed to be loose and sliding around?

I read the manual and tried this multiple times, I'm at my wits end....can anyone help me?
 
There is no seal like the infamous "O" ring on the Remingtons. Yes, it slides around, especially when the bolt is locked open.

Have you shot it yet?

Stop over thinking it, buy a flat of shells, and shoot them up. Then repeat often.
