Auto drum powder measure binding . . .

So I've used my auto drum powder measure for at least a thousand loads, probably a lot more. Love the thing. Suddenly it starts acting up. It sticks open it stick closed then it won't budge at all. What the . . . I start taking it apart to see what's broken when it occurs to me this is metal on metal. A few dabs of zero friction oil and it runs like new. Ta da.

Life is good.

Mines plastic on metal

Good to know, but what parts did you actually lube?

This ^ When mine binds up it tends to be powder getting caught between the body and plastic insert . If not I blast the insides with graphite lube from a can .

Just the metal parts got oiled.

Well, assuming all auto drum by lee are the same, the part that screws into the die has a metal tube in a metal tube with a spring wrapped around in there somewhere. I oiled the metal on metal part, not the powder measuring parts, and not inside the tube that the powder falls through. Worked well. Reloaded couple hundred more rounds today and it worked like it was new.

Life is good.

Best way to smooth things up again is to dismantle the powder measure, the wipe it clean with a cloth and then powder it with graphite powder. No oil please!
