Auto bolt release for 10/22

I just installed one of these in my rifle and noticed that the "upgrade " was identical except for the triangular shaped opening.

It had been "rounded out", so that the little ears were smoothed off where they would hang on the pin.

Seems that it would be an easy job to do with a moto tool, saving a few bucks.
 
Could post some pics of your new bolt release or just try to modify your old one to match the new and see if it works.....maybe somebody could modify the stocker off pics and let us know how it works

I've made several of these and yes, it's fairly easy. I use a dremel

There is one other way to do this but this way works well.

so what exactly must be done in order for it to release automaticly? from the picture all i can tell is the the hole was ground out a little on the top, is this all that has to be done? i was about to order one off ebay, but after looking at one i thought it looked about the same, so i figured that i might as well give it a try, and save a few bucks.
 
I tried this as well and had trouble with it locking the bolt open at any time. Two rounds into a magzine or ten, it might lock it back anytime. Removed it entirely and have ) probs since.

I have done this mod on all of my 10/22s. I use a Dremel on the original part, same as Rimrock. Make sure to burnish the edges of the cut. It works well as long as you have the hole enlarged as shown in the right pic. If the hole is simply left flat like the left pic, it can hang up.

You release the bolt by pulling back on it a bit, and the bolt stop drops by spring tension.
 
It does not lock it open with the last shot, it allows you to lock it open manually and release it by charging the weapon only.

I am quite pleased with the way mine operates, even though it was an aftermarket add-on, not a modification of my own design.
