So in my quest of collecting collectible firearms, I've decided I want a real NYPD service revolver. I happen to be from New York, and thought it would be something I'd enjoy owning. So I called a couple of shops in the city and Long Island and asked if they had any. Turns out, they do. Prices were reasonable too. Problem is, I was told that NYPD never marked their firearms. So how do I know that the revolver I would buy is really an NYPD gun? I live in Tampa now, so I can't just stop in and look at them either. Would for example S&W be able to tell me the particular serial number was in fact made for NYPD use? I know Colt does this (for a fee) but is there an easier way? Thanks.

Excellent suggestion Walosi. Mr. Vivas is becoming something of a regular on the Smith & Wesson Forum , and is an expert on the NYPD (NY-1) revolvers.
Police marked revolvers are a favorite of mine also.

My exact suggestion.

RM's a holdover from the days of the old Compuserve Firearms Forum. Good guy.

He's got a bunch of guns up for auction on one of the auction sites.
