Australia

There must be at least the possibility of Australians owning revolvers.
The ICORE revolver matches are popular there.
Registration and storage requirements, maybe?

Several years ago, they held a world shotgun championship. One of the US best shooters, Anthony Matarese from NJ did not go. Why? Because, at that time, he shot a Beretta semi auto shotgun and they were strictly prohibited, even for a 3 day world championship match.

What I wanted to know . . .

Shooterdownunder:
Truth is I jus wondered what the laws were like. I watched video by a liberal anti-gun group that made made Australia seem void of guns.

So I take it there is no private ownership of semi-auto guns? What kind of hand guns can you own. If I was a rancher and wanted a shot gun for snakes how hard would it be for me to get one and would I be able to find ammo for it. Can you just give us the low-down in general about gun ownership in the land down under?

Depends on the type of gun. There is private ownership of semi auto longarms but it is VERY restricted. (as a rancher you would be eligible for one)

Surprisingly handguns are less restricted. There are minimum barrel lengths (100mm for revolver and 120mm for semi's (except for specialized target pistols)) For the most part they are limited to .38 however for some sporting disciplines you can go up to .45

Shotguns are pretty popular both for farming and sporting purposes so ammo is no problem.

I've previously posted a bit more in depth post about our laws here.

FYI we are anything but void of guns. As of last year we had more guns than we did prior to the port arthur massacre (the incident that led to all our new laws.)
