Do any of you know where a good range is that wont require me to buy an expensive membership? I understand range fees, and I am already a member where I live (100 miles west of Austin). I am taking a government course over the internet, and there are a bunch of anti's who seem really ignorant. I offered to cure their ignorance by taking them to the range and teaching them the basics. I've had a taker, and so now I must find a good place to shoot public or private in the Austin area that won't break me. Anybody know of someplace like this?

Assume you're talking about Austin, TX. Red's Indoor Range charges $10 per hour. It's a 100 yard range, and I believe they have a website. Cook's Sure Shot in Pflugerville (a suburb of Austin) also charges by the hour, is indoors, and also has a website. Hill Country Rifle Range is outdoors, just SW of Austin, goes up to around 400 yards, charges $5 per shooter, and $2 for each extra gun. Hours vary, so call first. Info is on the web. There's also a range just west of Johnson City, but I don't know their policies. Look under "Texas Tactical."

Drop me an Email, I'm allowed a small number of guests at the rifle club, won't be any charge at all. Aside from that, Eagle Peak charges 10$ a day for as many guns as you can carry to the firing line. There is a first time safety lecture and fee, (I think $8) Ranges from 7 yds to 200, Northwest of Austin by Jonestown. You can stop by the house on your way over. Eagle Peaks # is 512-267-1400.

Cooks charges $12/hr/lane. They usually allow people to share lanes, atleast they allow me to do it with the wife, but that may be different. They also rent guns for $8 + ammo. Ladies night is Monday, so if the taker is a woman it might be worth it to go then and get free rentals. I think Reds does the same thing. The URL's are as follows: http://www.cooks-sureshot.com and http://www.redsguns.com
