Auction tomorrow, what do you think of these items?

Hi all, sorry for posting this in the general forum, but I don't have a lot of time, and I'm not knowledgeable enough to bid on this stuff on my own.
There are:

1) Colt SAA "John Wayne commemorative", 4&1/4" bbl, with case, excellent condition.

2) Colt Delta Gold Cup 10mm, excellent condition.

3) "John M. Browning commemorative" Colt 1911 with case, excellent to good condition.

4)Miltech M1 Garand complete with accesories, NIB.

5) 2 Miltech M1 carbines complete with accesories, NIB.

6) Interarms P-38, fair condition.

Any estimates at value would help alot. I'm also interested in the details about the two commemorative models.

Thanks in advance, I'll let you all know what they go for, assuming I make it and get to bid. ;)

Try running to a local gun shop and see if you can find a copy of the Blue Book of Gun Values. (I think that's what it's called) I have a copy at home, but it is old. If you are serious about buying any of these firearms or any used firearms I would recommend picking one up. I think it costs $40 to $50, but it could save you hundreds.

I know a guy that bought a 20 gague o/u shotgun and paid about $100 above what the book said it was worth. (He bought it before I had the book) He was trying to sell it for what he paid, but eventually resigned himself to keep it.

I would give you the values, but my pc @ home is kaputt!! :( Good luck in the auction.

1) There were 3 different issues of John Wayne commemoratives. All have dropped in price from the original issue. The gun is worth considerably less since it was used, hence the excellent description. RETAIL on a NIB version is either $2000 (Standard), $7500 (Deluxe), or $12,000 (Presentation). A fired gun without box and papers is worth about half those prices or its value as a 3rd gen shooter.
2) Ex around $450-$500. Higher if in stainless steel or a 'first edition' gun. Don't know how well it stands up to full power 10mm loads.
3) 3000 made, not particularly rare, current retail on a NIB gun is $900. In the good condition listed it should be worth a little more than an 85% series 80, maybe $500.
4) You can buy a used M1 Garand for $400. A rebuilt, with all new parts including the barrel, unfired on a forged U.S. receiver would be worth $600.
5) The IAI rebuilds go for around $450 using U.S. receivers and components so price this one accordingly.
6) No telling without knowing the markings. If it is a common alloy gun with a lot of wear on the finish, maybe $200. Remember fair is %20-%60 finish and will shoot, may not be all original parts.

This info is from the current Blue Book along with my added opinion.

Thanks guys. I don't know which issue the John Wayne commemorative is, it has a dark, almost black finish, some, but not a lot, of gold engraving, including two bands circling the cylinder, both fore and aft.
does anyone know if Miltech uses US forged recievers? the Peacemaker and the Garand are what I'm most interested, with the Gold Cup 10mm close behind.
I seem to remember hearing that the Colt 10mm got it's rep for not holding up from the use of hot Norma ammo. Would it be alright with todays slightly tamer stuff?
I would probably get a set of 10mm dies anyway :)

Thanks again,
Dave

Be careful what you ask for..You may get it.
An unloaded pistol is a paperweight.

just got back, I picked up the M1 for $750. What a nice gun!
The Colt 10mm went for $650, the P-38 went for $500(?!?) The Colt 1911 commemorative went for $700.
I missed most of the rest, I was doing paperwork to pick up my new rifle.
Thanks for your help guys!

Dave,

YOU GOT ONE HE!! OF A DEAL!!!!

As noted in the post above, the Miltech M-1s are a beautiful piece of art, well worth the $750 you paid! (wanna sell it? ;) ) They are far above the usual 'rack grade' POS you find on the open market. Of course, when you're spending $1,300 for a gun it had better be good!

My bro-in-law got one last year. They had some sort of 'problem' that resulted in a delay so they upgraded his M-1 to a Winchester reciever from the standard Springfield Armory - no charge. SA, not to be confused with the current Springfield Armory, Inc., was the prime contractor of M-1s.

Miltech's M-1 Carbines go for around $800-900 if I remember correctly. Again, they are flawless.

JeffOTMG,
Your price quotes for the M-1s and Carbines are a little out of date. Yes, you can get the Garands that are pieced together from pieces-parts on a new american-made reciever (BUT NOT G.I.!) Same goes for the Carbines that IAI is selling. Those are not USGI recievers either. They are good for shooters, but worthless for collectors. A commonly found 'mixmaster' or US armed services arsenal rebuild gun of either type is a far cry from Miltech's standards of quality.
Heck, a DCM M-1 (now CMP) goes for over $550 for a 'rack grade'. The collector's grade guns, the sales of which are now temporarily suspended, will go for $750. Premium grade goes for close to a grand!

Definately a good deal on the M1. I was way off on the price. Miltech replaces the barrel with a new match grade as part of the rebuild process. The price you paid alone is less than what that level of rebuilding would cost if you provided the base rifle. Good job.

I should re-title thread, "auction yesterday, here's what I got"

Let's see if this works:
