Circus Worker to have big-top funeral
By Doug Johnson AP
Springfield MO- It may not be the greatest show on earth, but a lively
big-top funeral for and elephant groomer may be a spectacle P.T. Barnum
himself would be jealous of.
The side showsplanned includeciricus music, eats and even an elephant-drawn
carrying the casket.
In the center ring, the mail attraction will be ALbert "Shorty"Sharp, a man
whose tiny body was frozen when he died three months ago so his friends
could attendhis funeral. "It was my idea" said Sharps employer George Carden
ring master and owner of George Carden Circus International. "My circues was out
on the road when Shorty passed away and only a few of his friends would
have made the funeral."
SO, Carden says he decided to freeze Sharp at a Springfield funeral home until allof
his friends could come.
That day will be Saturday under the big top at Carden's winter quarters
north of Springfield. Close to a hundred people are expected at the send
off for the 82 year old New JErsey nativie.
Afterward Sharp's body will be loaded onto an elephant trailer and taken
to Robberson Prairie Cemetary. The cortege will be led by an elephant-
drawn wagon bearing Sharp's body.
"This is not much a funeral as it is a celebreation to say 'thank you' to Shorty
for his dedication.
