It seems that there are a lot of good things to say about the M96. I'm selling my LE Post-Ban AR15 and need a .223 replacement. The fact that I can use my Colt 30 rounders is a plus. Can you guys give me some more feedback good/bad about it? Also, what's a fair price on it?

Thanks

I don't think you'll hear anything but rave reviews from M96 owners.

Unfortunately, they had just hit the market when the ban came down here in CA, so the lowest priced M96's were in the $1700 range. I would have bought one at that price, but I'd already started a G3 project. It looked and felt great.

Thanks Destructo

A local shop I frequent has two. They're listed for $1499.00 and have been there over a year. Since a lot of my money goes into their bank, I'm sure I can strike a deal.

As good as the M96 is... Take a close look at a VEPR II. You can get it in .223. Its every bit as reliable, its even more accurate, and its 1/2 the price.

Oh, and for an AK variant - it has a very nice stock that is the right length for big American shooters.

I've shot one and handled a couple. They are a really fine rifle. However, I haven't shot one enough to say it is 2x(price) better than an AR(post ban). Also, for my personal prejudice, I would rather spend $1300.00++ on a M1A or a DSA FAL.

LOTS of threads in the archives on this one.

Tried it, thought it tres cool. put it back on the shelf. Too spendy and mostly TOO HEAVY for my taste in a .223. I agree with Mini-Z, for that kind of weight and cost, I'd sooner go with a .308.

Still, looked like an utterly reliable rifle, stone reliable, and the only negative things I've ever heard about it come from personal taste (like mine). Like you, heard many glowing reports.
