Attention Maryland Gunowners!!

I just went to the Associated Gunclubs of Balitmore planning session this weekend. The new Smart Gun Laws are going to the legislature. This is a whole package of laws that includes -

Mandatory Safety Class (License) - Of course no plans have been made about how to implement this and the MD State Police will be setting the standards. No funding either. This will be a license for a handgun that we can only keep in our homes since MD does not allow CCW to ordinary citizens!! A license to keep a gun in my house. Incredible.

The Smart Gun Law that bans all handguns unless they have an INTERNAL locking device and then in 2003 'Smart Gun' Technology.

All gun purchases at gunshows will be treated as regulated weapons purchases and will require the 8 day MD State Police check no matter what kind of gun it is - e.g. .22 Single Shot Rifle.

These are serious issues and if this gets to the legislature floor - we are sunk. This HAS to be stopped in committee. PLEASE write and call your State legislators and the chairmen of the Senate Judiciary Committee and the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee.

PLEASE Maryland gunowners - take action and lets get this killed in Committee or we will be as bad off as Kali. It is easier to stop it now because if this passes we will NEVER get it repealed.

Maybe us Marylanders need to actually get together on this one. I mean, get organized into a group and let them see just how many of us there are. We need to all come out of the closet, so to speak.

CassidyGT, e-mail me so maybe we can hook up by phone or in person. You're right, it's now or never.

I kinda like the idea of training everyone if it didn't include the permission part with the license. Sort of like driving a car is a privelage not a right. We don't need this wording. But think about it, How many lives could be saved if the drug dealers were required to actually hit their target? :)

Here is a site you can use to find the e-mail addresses of your reps.

This legislation is nothing but a backdoor attempt to ban the sale of all handguns. Glendenning didn't have the gonads to come right out and propose an outright ban, so he had Curran do it. Now he tries to get this past us with the logic that it would save so many lives. What a joke. As soon as I can convince the wife, we're out of this state.

I am in on anything we want to do to oppose this. It is time all of the MD gunowners got up and roared!

I am available for meetings or whatever.

The Best thing we can do is call the judiciary committee chairs for the Maryland House and Senate as well as your Delegates and your State Senator and emphasis that you oppose HB279 and SB211. Tell the secretary that you will vote for or against your Legislators based on how they vote on these bills. The secretaries keep records of calls for and against.

See the link above and that will take you to the Maryland State Legislative Web Page where you can find your Senators and Delegates.

The House Judiciaary Chair is:

J.Vallerio 410-841-3488

The Senate Judiciary Chair is:

W. Baker 410-841-3639

Call them and OPPOSE this "Smart Gun" Legislation!!

Our best chance is to kill this in committee So make that call.

Also, all Marylanders - lets go to the Second Amendment Sisters Rally in DC on May 14th (Mom's Day) Since we are so close to DC, we have no excuse for not being there. Mom will understand. Or better yet - bring her along. And bring some banners too.

Thanks.

I believe these measures won't pass this year, due to the conservative nature of the judiciary committee, and from the efforts of our brothers in Carroll county and more conservative counties. Even so, I have been writing letters as if it might. They will keep trying until the succeed in eliminating our RTKBA.

My wife and I will be at the march. Perhaps some of us can get together afterwards.

Is BTT used to send a topic to the top of the list? Like this post just did? :)

It's good to see some Marylanders represented on this board. Like every other gun owner I know here, I am really lamenting the fact that Ellen didn't win the governorship! I can't wait until this Task Farce/Virtual Gun ban agenda fails.

If you guys ever get together for a beer or shoot together, let me know-I'm centrally located here in Mo. County. Bulldozer, maybe we can sample some of the foreign beers at the Ram's Head sometime.

The first Ellen campaign was a fix and Glendening actually lost. Had 23 votes coming out of an abandoned building and nothing was done about it. Criminal.

I am thinking of a Maryland get together sometime. There's quite a few of us between here and AR15.com.

Make those calls guys!!

It would seem that my business card was picked out a drawing at a local restaurant (94th Aero Squadron in College Park, MD) for a complimentary first round of drinks and buffet for me and 20 of my colleagues. Maybe we should take advantage of this and at least have an informal meeting/prep/gripe session. If anyone in MD is interested, e-mail me at rclippman@hotmail.com. I don't have the confirmation fax handy at the moment (in the office), but if folks want to do this, I'm game.

A reminder that the next Silvarado Gun Show is Feb 19 and 20 (sat and sun) in Upper Marlboro. Does anyone else plan on going?

Unfortunately I committed to go skiing that weekend of the gunshow. Cannot back out of it now and am kicking myself for it!
