ATI heat shield with ghost ring sight

Has anybody seen the heat shield with ghost ring rifle sights from ATI? Is it as good as it looks? I want rifle sights and I don't want to spend a lot of $. If the ventilated shield with sights is any good it's the answer to my prayers.

The one I saw recently was pretty limp.

It wouldn't stay in place and moved around under recoil, so the sights were never "on".
The "Ghost" ring rear is too far forward to work well, since an aperture sight only works when it's pretty close to your eye.

It struck me as the sort of thing no serious shooter would have.

I haven't seen one installed but don't think it looks very sturdy. In theory it's a good thought, but once you see it, those "sights" are going to be all over the place, granted it is GR's meant for short range, but it's just not how good gun accessories should be. A GR setup is more than a hundered bucks, this thing includes them on a mostly aesthetic part. Maybe you'll find them better than a little bead. But think how cheap this is compared to a real setup, there is a reason for that. It just seems like something that hillbillys would put on their Maverick to make it look tough. And at that price is probably all it was meant for. Like i said I have not used one but guarantee it is garbage, and the last thing I am is a gun snob.
Dfariswheel took the words from my mouth with his last sentence.
You can find a good used barrel with rifle sights for not that much money. A couple shops I've been to have little barrels full of Moss and Rem bbl's, all lengths, types, sights, etc for dirt cheap, probablt a good cond. rifle sighted barrel can be found for the cost of this ATI part. I'm not exactly sure the meaning of "mall ninja", but that heat sheild/GR combo brings the phrase to mind for some reason.

when you said it will not stay in place, what do you mean ? do you think their ATI heatshield with no sights move around too ?

I wasn't that crazy about it, actually. I bought one and it's currently sitting in my pile of stuff to get rid of. Make me an offer and I'll mail it to you. It stayed put, fine. The peephole is sort of far from the eye.

Now, I like ATI, I know a lot of people say their stuff is crap, but it's always worked well for me and at a lower price than the competition.

Having said that, look at what other products the ghost ring heatshield came out with. It was introduced along with AR-15 stocks and fore-ends for NEF single shot rifles and shotguns. It seems like that stuff is for people who want an AR-15 for the price of a 90 dollar break open.

IIRC The sights aren't adjustable, they're made of molded plastic. and they are not attached firmly enough to the gun.

You'll be better off with a bead.

As for a normal heatshield, I think that'll be okay. It is meant only to protect your hands from the hot barrel, so a little play doesn't matter. Most guns don't need one however I used to shoot a mossberg 590 that REALLY needed one. I'd get my hands burned by the barrel even during a relaxed paced round of skeet.

I got one for my 870 it's junk the sights kept turning plus they were plastic and could be ripped off easilly. good news is the sights unscrew and you can use just the heat shield which works well if you already bought one otherwise get the regular heat shield.

the sights kept turning

so if you take off the sights, does the heat shield have a spot that u can tell there is somthing missing ?

I would like to get one, and if it dont work out, remove the sights, but if it would leave ugly marks, I rather not get one..

ATI makes junk, nothing more. Every single product they produce is bottom of the barrel. This is simply one of the better examples of this.

I Picked up a maverick 88 28" w/o rib cut it down to 181/4, so i did not have a bead anymore, put a ati heat sheild with the sights,it moved under recoil. i moved it back to the receiver and locked set screws real tight, has not moved again, yes the sights are plastic and dont look like they will take a lot of abuse . put a ati pistol grip stock also on it and is great.

miscusi

it left a small hole for the screw but the heat shield has holes all over it so it didn't matter to me if your really worried I can take a picture for you.

Thanks for the info ! makes total sense, no pic necessary ! thanks

This site is a GODSEND!

I am really glad that I found this forum. My brother posts in here from time to time and told me about it so I thought I would check it out. Reading this thread just saved me $32.95! I was just about to buy the ATI Heatshield (I was actually just checking-out) and stumbled upon this thread. Needless to say, I voided the transaction.

Thanks guys! :)

It works

Thank you Glock3020.

I had the same problem that it moved. I did as you said and moved it all the way back to the Receiver and then really tightened down the locking screws and it does not move anymore.

Glad you were positive and not a trashier for entertainment value.

I for one do not plan on “bashing” any my 3 Mossberg 500's around to have the Ghost right sights coming off in the First Place just sayin. In fact, I do not bash around ANY of my weapons. It will save my life one day even in combat or self-defense. I for one treat all my weapons as they should be and do not use them like a Lead Pipe.

NO ONE EVER said the sights came off in normal use.

I have 3 Mossberg 500 and needed one with a Ghost Ring sight for home protection. I have ribbed barrel and the Rifle sight Barrel. Also, have one with a 40mm Red Dot scope.

Each Mossy has a purpose. I needed home defense shotgun and needed the Ghost Ring Site and a BEAD does not cut it when you may be in some cramped CQB.

Thank you for not being a trash talker and naysayer but a “can do” Get ur done Problem Solver. I have regular Heat shields on all non Ribbed Barrels.
