ATF bound book question

Hi folks,

After spending a bunch of time going through the ATF manuals and at their web site, I can't seem to find out about computerized record keeping in place of the bound book. I know this topic was discussed before, and hopefully someone could answer this for me.

I am a C&R FFL holder and required to maintain a bound book just like the big boys. I would like to maintain these records in a computer database. Somewhere it was written that one must get permission from the ATF to do this. My question is, where does one receive this permission, from what office in DC or can it be done from the local field office? If permission must be from DC, what office? Hell, I can't even get the phone number for the local office, all they list in the phone book is a general 800 info number for the DC area.

Thanks.

Send the request to your local field office. They will forward it to the regional official responsible. It is a fairly straight forward process that shouldn't take too long. You will get back a form letter giving approval and outlining the requirements for the record. I keep my records on an Excel spreadsheet and print a hard copy every time I make a change. I also keep a backup on a floppy disc.
