At the risk of a dumb question...

Probably not, the breech face and locking lugs probably are different enough to mess up your slide. Call beretta Customer service to be sure 1 (800) 636-3420.

Rumor has it that Beretta isn't selling any drop in conversions. If you can't find an aftermarket barrel, start writing to some of the people that make aftermarket barrels and tell them what you want. One of them is bound to corner the market on it. While you are at it, try and find me a 357 Barrel for my 8040.

no the 9mm barrel wouldn't fit properly into the slide and line up with the breechface. some aftermarket barrel manufacturers such as Bar-Sto, Federal and others make 9mm conversion barrels for .40/.357sig pistols. i know they make then from Glocks and Sigs but i'm not sure about the Beretta 96. check their web sites and email them to find out.

No... the 9mm barrel is small in the 40 slide. However, Bedlamite and I (he has a 96, I have a 92) stood side by side at my kitchen table with loaded Berettas, unloaded, disassembled, them reassebled using each-others slide/barrel and magazine. While we didn't fire (as the wife wouldn't let us inside), the lock-up on each was flawless...
