Astra Constable Help Again

Took my astra constable outside to shoot today. If I pull the slide and load up chamber, and take off safety, the trigger will not release hammer. In single action mode, hammer cocked, safety off, it will fire chambered round and load next round but then the trigger wont engage. Visually the hammer cogs seem to be good and transfer bar is good. Cannot see any signs of binding in the trigger system. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I am confused. Unlike other DA/SA pistols, the Constable can't be operated with the safety on; the slide will not move and the hammer cannot be cocked, either with the thumb or by the trigger.

Still, if the gun is fired normally, the next round should load and fire normally, and that should go on until the magazine is empty.

It sounds like the trigger bar is not re-engaging the sear, but not easy to be sure. Those guns are a bit more complex than, say, a Walther PP. I suggest applying some oil to the trigger bar area and work the gun a bit.

Astra Constable

Jim you are right, I meant to say that when I pull back slide to chamber a round the safety is off at that point. The trigger just wont engage hammer when pulled. Kind of thinking it might be sear although the plunger seems to working back and forth. That being said maybe the hammer is missing a cog though I dont have anything to compare it to. I really like the styling of this little gun and would like to repair it.

Think I found problem Astra Constable/ Parts?

I had to take gun down and remove safety lockout, but I found that the trigger bar end was not engaging the sear by a fraction of an inch thus not tripping the hammer. I dont see anything worn to the point of being obvious so I guess I will replace the sear assembly and the trigger bar as well. If any one has these parts or a parts gun for sale please let me know. Thanks.

I doubt those pistols have been around long enough for any of them to be badly worn. I suspect something is not engaging or otherwise not working right. Unfortunately, I can't do much long distance to help, but those guns are pretty rough and simply smoothing the parts and the machined areas of the frame might help.

But if you do take that pistol down all the way, note each part and exactly how it goes in and how it relates to the other parts. That will help a lot when it is time to put things back together.
