Astra A-70 - Failure to feed

Wondering if anyone can help...I bought an Astra A-70 awhile back (single-stack, single-action .40)and had a faiure to extract. After a couple people looked at it, I was advised to call EAA and order a few extractor springs and an extractor. I did, and replaced the spring and extractor. The problem now is the gun won't feed *at all*.

The round is being stripped off the mag but the extractor is holding onto it so tightly that it can't feed. The hook of the extractor is in the groove lip of the case. It's not letting go for anything. Anyone have any ideas? Should I try one of the new springs and the old extractor? Thanks in advance for any help...

Take it in to your local smithy... Sounds like that extractor needs some tuning. and a general action job would not hurt it any either.
I had a Star Firestar.45 (same company now) and it was a pretty good little gun. It would give me a failure once in awhile but not too often. After 3 days with my smithy - it was a great little gun! He polished the rails and feed ramp and chamber... smoothed the trigger and whatnot. Now more feed problems. I almost did not want to trade it in on my first Sig P220. Almost.

Hi, Stark,

If you put in the new extractor, you should be able to take it out again and polish the back of the extractor hook and also round off and slope the bottom of the hook so it lets the cartridge rim slip up under the extractor.
