Does anyone own one of these old revolvers the astra 680 inox in 38 special? Wanna know if the can handle +p rounds?
 
Yes, and no.

I own two, both blued. The first I bought for a song, but was a bit battered. It shot very well until I bulged the barrel with a squib load. Since then it still shoots very well!!

The second was newer and in better condition it also shoots very well.

I have not seen anything to say that +P is a possibility, and the frame bulk would not encourage me to try hot loads in them.

I do however really like mine and am very glad I found these little guns. The SA trigger is the best I've got. As smooth as the single-set trigger on my CZ 550 rifle!!

If you can live with standard .38 Spl pressures, I say go for it!! :D
 
O ok thanks a lot, will then be sticking to standard load at first! Do you shoot cast bullets with yours? I am fairly new to reloading handgun, so dont know the ins and outs about reloading with cast/wc/swc and so on! As i currently live in south africa our powders would differ but i guess that the basic could stay the same, like if i would shoot about 200 rounds a week with cast bullets how to properly clean the astra after shooting all those lead bullets ect

I shoot factory FMJs or plated lead which is not far removed from plain old lead in terms of reloading as well as some LWC. So not cast, but certainly lead has been through mine.

If you decide to get one, I think you'll be pleased: even has adjustable main-spring tensioner, under the grips. Remove them and you see a metal ring the spring is set into.

The ring has 4 apertures, each with a different depth recess for the spring, meaning that you can choose 4 degrees of preload on the main spring.

They were designed before +P existed.

The 250 is 5 shot and the 680 is 6 shot. This means that the cylinder walls on the 680 are thin.

I carry hot non-+P 158gr JSPs in mine.

I really like mine in blue, but yours in SS looks even nicer. I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised by what it can do, just don't punish it with over-hot ammo!!

Yes its a nice looking revolver, if i change our money to US dollars it cost me about 20 dollars, for me that was really cheap.

I also got both of mine for a lot less than a used Taurus snub. Given the suggested gamble with Taurae, I've pounced an almost every Astra I've found.

Now, your statement begs a question....
Where are you posting from where a fine, tidy looking snub like that goes for $20 equivalence??
