Astr Cub 22 Short???

I have no practical use for it, but it looks like a nice little pistol. Just another range plinker to take up a tiny bit of space in my safe. Possible trade :eek::eek:, I know, I know!!!, for a 1916 Spanish Mauser converted to 7.62X51. Don't even know if the guy is interested, but he offered my Son the Astra in trade for his Hugo 48a Mauser.
What do you know about the tiny Astra. from what I have found they were all steel, originally chambered for 25acp, but later also offered in 22 Short. This particular one looks to be in pretty good shape, by the pics any way, but with aftermarket grips that look to be Rosewood.

They are a neat little firearm. I worked on one a few years ago that had a unique problem. The firing pin was very soft. I have no idea what they made them out of, but the end mushroomed and ended up too short once hammered back to flat. It took some serious digging if I recall correctly, but a replacement firing pin was able to be located. I took that to mean that they aren't what you'd call a quality pistol. I can't think of very many long guns I wouldn't trade one for if it meant getting it out of my house.

I have one I have fired quite a bit with no problems, though they are not exactly a powerhouse pistol. The same pistol was made for Colt as the Colt Junior in both .22 Short and .25 ACP, 1958-1968. After importation was stopped by the GCA '68, some were produced with U.S. made frames and imported parts. They were inferior to the Spanish-made guns.

There were no Astra marked guns with US made frames-only the Colts. Importation of the Cub stopped in 1968. They are fine little guns. Pretty accurate and fun to shoot.
I doubt the firing pin 10-96 saw was original to the gun.

First handgun I ever shot over 60 years ago. I'm sure my dad must have traded it on something else that I probably still have . Last year my generous brother found one on Gunbroker and bought it for me to satisfy my nostalgic longings.

I got one. Once I dumped the junk brand X mag and got a factory mag. Mine is a shooting fool I love it for playing and even carry to store and back
CCI shorts and never a miss fire . I wish I could find a Colt in 25 or 22 short at good price. :D

I've one i picked up a few years back in 22 Short. I had bought a Siamese type 45 rifle from a GS and they had the Astra in a display case. It was very soiled looking and had a great price so I bought it. Turned out it is a factory engraved Astra Cub. It was silver plating and that gave it that look. Polished up pretty. Never have shot it. As I reminisce. Here is a pic...

Are they easier to hit with than a Beretta 950 .22 short?

Actually the best handgun for shooting .22 short ammunition is probably a good full size 22 long rifle revolver.

The Astra is a neat and well made pistol sold by Colt in .25 for many years with Colt markings. The .22 short is fun shooting and I put four or five bricks of shorts away just for that pistol. Triple K magazines are iffy at best, if you need an extra mag try to get an original.

I have one and it is fun to shoot. Shorts are not cheap anymore and getting hard to find, but the little gun is a bottle cap killing fool.

My ASTRA CUB 22SHORT has 6742 rounds through it as we speak and it'll pick the buttons off your shirt at 25 yards slick as you please as it shoots dead upon it's sights. It'll hit tomato juice cans at 50meters all day long, an utterly delightful little 22 pistol !
My Colt version is no where near as accurate as the CUB but it still is a fun plinker out to 30' or so.
And so it goes...
