what a fabulous question to introduce yourself to your fellow firing line members!

first things first, so we are on the same page:

1) what do you mean by 'assault weapon'? it is a fairly ambiguous term with no real definition.

2) what do you mean by 'need'? like, i need water to survive, or, i need to watch 'Survivor' tonite?

3) Who is 'we'? do you mean me and you, or 'we' as in the human species, or perhaps just americans?

so, in order to answer your question, you will need to be more specific.

There are either semi-automatic firearms or there are full automatic firearms. Either can be used to assault someone or some thing. Assaulting a person is a crime which I would never do. So, you are left with "some thing" like a target.
 
I think I know what he means, but just to clarify for him: An assault weapon is a term used by anti-gun organizations to try and scare people and to create propaganda that furthers their cause. They say that their purpose is nothing more than to mow down innocent people, NOT TRUE. They don't like them because they are black and to them, scary looking.

We do not NEED anything but food, water and shelter but there are reasons why we should be allowed to have them.

Because they are great HD guns in certain areas. Because they are fun. Because it is our constitutional right to have them. Because they reduce recoil and thus let recoil shy shooters continue to enjoy shooting sports. Because some of us are military buffs and like to collect them. Because the calibers they are chambered in are intermediate rounds and rifles in other action types usually aren't chambered in these rounds. I'm sure our other members will be able to generate more replies.

To ask a question as to "need" is nothing more than an entry to spew a lot of misunderstanding and mindless drivel. Please tell me I'm wrong this time. Just once. Please.......
 
Yes a slingshot can be considered an assault weapon. I could smack someone in the head with my checkbook, then my checkbook will be considered an assault weapon.

FWIW, a few years ago a former grade school teacher of mine was killed in her home by an assailant with a ball pien hammer.

Perhaps he thinks hammers are "assault weapons" and we should ban hammers?
 
To blast Bambi with, of course! Actually, I don't know what an "assault weapon" is. In any event, you said "we". I have no idea why YOU need one. As for me, need has nothing to do with the 2nd Amendment fundamental right to KEEP and BEAR arms.
 
Why do we need Swiss Army knives? I am not Swiss, I do like their cheese. I am not in their army. I do have a Swiss Army knife though. I feel so....tactical! LOL

I need a drink. Or do I just want one because I'm over 21?

I'd like to buy my son a drink-he comes home for a visit from sunny Iraq in a few weeks, but he is not old enough to drink, although he is old enough to carry an assault rifle.

Begs a question:If an assault rifle is select fire, does the 3 shot burst count or is it full/semi options only. Maybe they call them semisalt rifles......
