Assault weapon ban - do we have a prayer?

In a desparate grasp for hope, let me suggest:
- W. is saying what is politically expedient now. Saying he _wouldn't_ renew it would be very very bad politically now. Maybe, when faced with it on his desk, he won't. Maybe. </dream>
- This law is simply unconstitutional, and having a court strike it down would be more effective in the long run.

Didn't someone here on TFL ask that question of G.W. in person? And didn't he say something to the effect that that was a good way to lose his job?

A lying politician. I'm shocked.

Do we have a prayer? Not really. At least not in public. Either it's against the law or someone might take offense.

Remember, we no longer live in the land of the free and the home of the brave. We now live in the global village! You may only do what offends NObody else in the world.

We will continue to lose our Rights until we are willing to extend Rights to others - even Rights we do not ourselves believe in.

However, we live in a time when the only "Right" I have is to be offended, to be horrified, and to feel my "Rights" infringed if I can even *perceive* you are doing something I don't believe in. So our "leaders", eager to gain even more power over us, enact the laws we ask for and/or laws we refuse to fight against. Thusly we become a subjugated people.

We all lose, people, when we kill off the "other guy's" Rights.
