ASM nipple thread size?

I want to replace the nipples on my ASM 1858 Buffalo. I was told the AT mark means it was made in 1988.

I tried swapping the nipples from a couple of Piettas I got recently but they are not the same size.

Does anyone know the thread size on the ASM nipples? I want to change them because the hole is HUGE and I'm wondering if this is where some of the residue is coming from...the hole on the inside of the nipple is twice as large than any of my other BP revolvers...maybe bigger...thanks...

I don't have much faith in the hardware stores around here...I took the nipples from one of my Piettas and they couldn't determine the thread size. One was an ACE and the other was an independant. They did not have a M6X.75 either...total bummer...I'll try another store but seems no one wants to try anymore for customer service round here...

Howdy Lee,
Thanks for the info. I will contact them and see what they show for ASM nipple size.
I went to another hardware store today and they did not have anything that would really fit the nipple. A M6X1 did fit but was real loose and had lots of slop. It didn't tighten up until it was all the way in and that's not a good fit.
Thanks again...

Looks like blomquist may be shut down. All the phone numbers are disconnected...
I sent an email just in case...

I'm going to call Track of the Wolf tomorrow and see what they recommend trying in the ASM...I'll let you know what they say. Thanks...

They (ASMs) are the same pitch as the Uberti Remington and the ROA: 12X28. Most Piettas are 6X.75mm
I had to put Uncle Mike's SS replacement nipples into my ASM 1860 Army 44 and they were the ROA replacement nipples with the hex nut shape. I need the ROA nipple wrench to get them out.

Googled Uncle Mike SS nipples and didn't have any luck...so I ordered a standard 12X28 and a 6X.75. I'm going to see what fits best. I have some 6X1. Between all of them I'll figure it out. Strange these Italian nipples...

It's been posted that the Bloomquist contact page and listed phone numbers aren't working but his phone number is actually 317-706-0712 and was reported to be working as of 7/18/11.

I have it! The 12X28 size nipple fit the ASM 1858 I have. As I understand it, the 12X28 metric equivalent is M5.5X.9. The Tresco package has M5.5X.9 on the front and on the back it says 12-28 thread.

Look at the difference between the hole size in the nipple. Could the large hole have been causing the dirty cylinder? I mean the outside of the cyl was very dirty after shooting.

What other reason would there be for such a large nipple hole?

Thanks...

Absolutely that huge hole was causing you problems. It allows so much pressure to come back through upon firing that it was probably knocking the hammer back, blowing the cap off and allowing the gas to soot up the cylinder.

Yep... All six nipples are like that! Huge holes...same size straight through.

I ordered one 12X28 nipple to see if it fit and it does. Now I've ordered a full set of the Treso nipples with the tiny hole.

Still wondering why the large hole in the nipples??? Any thoughts??

Thanks...
