ASM 1851 .36cal brasser

So my dad picked up an ASM 1851 Navy in brass frame with the wood presentation case, powder flask, brass ball mould, etc. several years ago and asked me, now, if I want it. He's just not interested in it anymore. It's never been fired, but I remember it had a broken bolt spring when he got it, so he got it for a song (I fixed it for him a few years ago). I want to give him close to the value of it but have no idea about ASMs. The brass pietta at Cabelas is $130 at the moment, without any of the accoutrements. Any idea on value of this set?
 
Seems to me that somewhere in the $225 range would be fair given the extras you have there. Unless the flask and/or box are made out of much better than average material....

That's my best guess.
 
I'd guess somewhere in the $250 area +/-. The brass frame .36 well be safe to shoot with loads not exceeding 18grs. I like 16grs in the .36 brass open tops.
 
Ignoring Cabela's loss leader pricing of brassers, somewhere between $250.00 and $300.00 would be my guess. Priced separately, the total for NIB pistol, case, flask, mold, nipple wrench could go higher.

This is the ASM 1851 Navy I was talking about. Probably has the nicest grips I've ever seen on a reproduction gun. Pic doesn't do it justice. The trigger is also very nice light and crisp, like it's been tuned. Slight ring on the cylinder from cycling. I have to admit that I'm impressed, and I had heard some bad things about ASM. The news clipping was in the box with the gun and was dated Oct 1994.

That clipping brings back memories

That is the way Shotgun News used to be presented.

When I started in BP shooting that is the way all of my pistols were procured.

That was about 1971.
 
Are you sure it is Armi San Marco? That looks more like a Pietta trigger to me.

I had an ASM Steel Frame and will not get anything else ASM because of it. Tons of problems and nothing good to say about the gun.

That's not from cycling, that's from letting the hammer down from half cock. You should always pull it back to full cock before lowering it.

ASM made some good stuff back then. It wasn't till their later years that their quality and quality control went to the dogs. I have had some really good revolvers that were ASMs - all made back in the 70s and 80s. I know a few CAS shooters today that still use their ASM revolvers in competition. Only problem is lack of availability of parts nowdays if they break something.
