Ashley Express Big Dot Tritium Sights

I am seriously considering installing a set on my G26. I have heard that these sights aren't for precise target work at distance, but I think that the concept would work pretty well on a close-quarters gun such as the Glock. I would like to hear from those of you with these sights. Do you recommend them? Least expensive source? Easy to install yourself?

I'm in the same boat, though I'm considering them for my Kimber Ultra Carry. You're right about the fact that they aren't for precision work, their forte is rapid acquisition, apparently based on similar designs originally used in the bush for quick shots at big game at short distances. Will let you know when I try I set. m2

I have heard SO MANY people say that Ashley Express sights are not precise.
I don't know many of those people that have actually used them though, so they are just looking at the picture and making a knee jerk guess.
I have a pair on my G26 and, no exaggeration, I shoot 3/4 inch groups with it all day long at 7 yards.
At 15 yards, my groups open up to about 1.5 inches.
I have shot them often at ranges of 50 yards and more and hit gallon water bottles very well.
This is on a very small subcompact gun with the BIG dot sights.
They are not unprecise, you just have to get use to them and they are as precise as any other sight.
Give it 200 rounds of practice on paper getting used to lining them up and you should be very precise with them.
I tried a set and now I am putting them on most of my guns. I shoot IPSC and more and I have no problem hitting little steel plates etc at high speed with them. They are a superior sighting system, very VERY fast, easy to see, and just as precise as you are with the gun.

I put one on my Springfield TRP - shooting improved instantly. Speed improved too.
I like the regular sized Dot with the Tritium insert - the BIG DOT is a touch too big for me.

I honestly think these are the best sights you can get.

I have these sights installed on a Colt Mustang and a Walther PPK, and I agree that they are fast and not a detriment to accuracy.

I suggest you examine the sight clearance of any holster(s) you intend to use with a handgun equipped with these sights.

George, why do you like the smaller dot? Is it because the big dot covers too much of the target at 25 yards? I will need to qualify with the G26 at 25 yards, so your opinion is appreciated.

I have the Ashley Big Dot tritium sights on my CCO. They are great! I am having work done on a BHP and am putting them on it also. They are very fast to get into action and easy to see. They are also very good for people like me are getting that middle age seeing problem. It is much easier for me to see these sights than any other. I wish I had them on every gun I own!

Okay,
This is not a good example of accuracy, but I managed to hit a 4" steel square at 100-115 yards. Don't ask me how many shots it took to do it, but the point is that with the proper sight picture (and proper hold over!!) you can use the Ashley very accurately. The Ashley Express principle works bext with the Big Dot, and personally I feel the Big Dot Tritium works better than non-tritium, even in daylight. The insert provides a centering reference and somehow helps me zero in on the sight a little quicker. Out to 25yds, its just cover the target with the dot- nothing is faster. For precision, you lollipop the rear bar, and use the very top of the dot as your poa. For shooting at steel at 100+ yds, you line up the sights, then raise them to hold over for bullet drop (thereby obscuring the target), then you fire for effect and start walking them in ;)
Like I said, it ain't the best example, but the shots were all within a foot or so of the plate- not as bad as most would think. If you're serious about defensive pistol use, you ought to consider the Ashleys. At average gunfight distances, the last thing people remember to look at under stress is their sights- with the Ashley's, even if you improperly focus on the target plane, you will see a ghost imprint of that "golf ball" on your target.
We are a stocking Ashley dealer for their pistol and AR15 sights. Everything we sell is in stock unless clearly noted, and ships by the next business day. Let us know if you have any questions!!
Best,
Joe

I just put a set of Ashleys (regular dot) on a Glock 34. Very easy to install. So far they seem pretty good. A few months ago, I had D.R. Middlebrooks put a set of his VMAX Pro-Sights on my Kimber. These are similar to the Ashleys except the front sight is a fiber optic and the rear 'vee' is a little deeper. They are amazing - my IDPA match performance has improved and they remain accurate out to 25 yards and beyond (I rarely shoot beyond this distance).

My early impression is that the Pro-Sights are easier to shoot accurately beyond 15 yards, although that might equally be the difference in shooting a 1911 vs a Glock (for me at least).

If the Middlebrooks system combined the fiber optic with a tritium insert it would be awesome....

I prefer the Pro-Sights. Unlike the Ashley sights, they are fully adjustable for elavation and windage. They are super fast and accurate. D.R. romped on everyone at teh American Handgunner Man-on-Man shootoffs last year with a pair of Pro-Sights on a stock EAA 9mm. He won limited class and finished second overall to Jerry Barnhart who was using a custom .38 super, compensated with a Bushnell Holosight and drawing from a speed rig. D.R. was using a High Desert Kydex concealed carry holster!!!
All of my guns for competition or carry now have Pro-Sights. They are simply the fastest, most accurate sight out there.

I dont NEED the bigger dot sized - the reason for going to the Ashleys is that they are bigger than standard front sight Dots - and they give me better visibility in all lighting/target conditions. I dont know if the BIG DOT sight would cover up too much - but it is a big honkin dot... maybe too big for me, but not me in 20 more years of eye sight decline.
