Looks like an interesting book. If roughly 15 million women own guns why is so hard to meet one that does? Hopefully my lady will be joining those numbers sooner than later :D

From what I could tell the book and article sends a pretty positive message about gun ownership in general and takes a look at the various reasons ladies and by extension people own firearms. I thought this quotation from the book was particularly well chosen as I think it reflects why a great number of us enjoy firearms.

“For me it’s the camaraderie and the time spent around the idea of hunting and guns that I love. It’s about being with my children and being with my father and being with people I love in beautiful parts of the country. ... It opens up beautiful dialogue about the respect of guns and how that translates to respect of nature and respect of other humans. Ironically, it brings up a lot of things I’m passionate about.”

I wonder where I can meet ladies like that as well,,,

Almost all of the ladies I know who like shooting,,,
I've introduced them to the sport.lifestyle.

I might have to buy that book.

Looks like a really cool book, and a look at a simple truth that often goes unnoticed. Gun ownership, enthusiasm, and proficiency is not male only.

Took the fiance shooting with me a 2 weekends ago, she had never fired any of my guns, but her uncle had taught her to shoot. She doesn't like them (she says), but she just up and told me a few days before we went that she wanted to.

And her shooting my 92fs is possibly the hottest thing I have ever seen:D

Downside is, now she wants her own, what have I done

I dislike the idea of calling them "chicks." It seems somewhat condescending, even if such was not the intent.

That said, it's a good essay. I couldn't help but notice several things:

  • The subjects had really good taste in guns,
  • they were more well-spoken than most men I know in the gun culture, and
  • there was a refreshing lack of politics.

Tom Servo, we're on the same sheet of music here. Very cool, very encouraging article. In my LE capacity, whenever I interact with female crime victims, I encourage them to look into purchasing a firearm [as well as the necessary training that goes with it]. However, I must point out that lots of women refer to themselves as "chicks". It's really their version of "dudes".

TS, I know what you're saying, but the female creator of the photo essay is the one who named it, and apparently the female subjects didn't object.

Besides, sometimes it's fun to thumb one's nose at the PC police.

Great read :). As a "chick" who owns guns i don't take offense to the term. Its like calling a man "dude", I also think people are just too damn sensitive anyway. Now if the title was Chicks shouldn't own guns i might have a problem lol, but it was light hearted and positive article.

EDIT: Also wanted to add, anytime i see firearms displayed in a positive way by the media it gives me a bit of hope.
