Arsenal sgl2171 ak-47 7.62x39...

Could I go wrong purchasing this AK through Buds?

What about the rumors of melting/bubbling handgrips in heavy fire?

I am not a really big guy.
Would I be better off with a Warsaw length stock?
Which of Bud's Arsenal models would that be?

I have never had a problem with a Bud's transaction but I noticed that
the FFL I used didn't quite grasp the concept that I needed to carefully inspect the firearm before accepting delivery.
I don't think this FFL would be of any use in determining if this AK had a canted sight, magazine wobble, trigger slap or any other defect.

Thanks!

Sounds like you have some anxiety over your purchase.

I'm 6 ft tall and use the warsaw buttstock and shoot my ar15 with the telescoping buttstock collapsed in most the way. My uncle who is the same size shoots his AR with the stock all the way out. Honestly I could shoot either one without even thinking about it but prefer the shorter stock because I like to scrunch up and rest my elbows on my body.

What about the rumors of melting/bubbling handgrips in heavy fire?
If you shoot enough rounds fast enough you can catch wooden forends on fire. I've gotten my SGL21 pretty hot and my SGL31 mother Fing hot a few times and neither of those have melted, bubbled or warped.

canted sight, magazine wobble, trigger slap
All 3 of my Arsenal rifles have had straight sights, tight mag wells and I have yet to experience trigger slap. Some people don't like the arsenal two stage triggers but Tapco G2s are only 30 bucks and super easy to install.
I can't say your rifle will be perfect but you are more than likely not going to have major problems. I think I moved my SGL21 1/8 of a turn up on the front sight mostly because I wanted to nitpick than anything else.

Thanks!

I see the ARSENAL SGL2161 AK-47 7.62X39 comes with a Warsaw pact length butt stock. Would this be a better choice for someone who is 5'8" and doesn't have a long reach?

The other question that went unanswered is what is the truth concerning
the polymer handguards? Is there any chance they could begin to melt
with typic range use?

Would you look for a model with stainless steel handguards?

Finally, does anyone know what kind of finish these AK's have?
With the humidity where I live I am very reluctant to get anything with a blued finish.

I am 5'10'' with short arms and I prefer the Warsaw stock.
I highly doubt the Arsenal hand guards are going to melt-- stainless steel heat shield.
The finish feels like its just black paint. Nothing fancy.

I'm 6'0'' and prefer my AK with collapsable stock with it almost all the was collapsed. It's not uncomfortable with either of the other fixed length stocks, I just prefer it collapsed; especially when training for CQB... I extend it when in the prone or bench shooting. I just like the added flexibility.

Collapsible stock...

Any good examples or thought on the proper way to hold/fire an
AK with a collapsible stock?

Were they actually designed to be fired this way for CQB or just to make them easier to carry?

Im short and small 5'8" 150lbs but with long arms but the warsaw length buttstock is just fine for me.

I've found that AR type stocks all feel cheap and shifty compared the kvar stuff that comes on the Arsenal rifles as stock.

And both of my SGL 21s have midwest industries quadrail forends so...melting isn't an issue...Nor do I think it would be if my forends were polymer.

All SGLs are saiga conversions done professionally up to russian mill-spec standards (minus select fire) by Arsenal who is the biggest name in quality AK variants here in the US. Saigas are produced by Izhmash, who is the biggest name in quality AK variants in the world. Simply put you will not find a better AK variant without getting a milled receiver which ups the price by about $1000.

I would imagine that if you fire 1000+ rounds through it fully auto in succession that the heat resistant hand guard would start to melt. But long before that, a wood stock would catch fire, an aluminum rail would be too hot to touch, etc... The stock Arsenal guards are as good as it gets if your looking to disperse heat.

I have never heard of a case in which someone received an Arsenal AK that had canted sights, canted gas block, or stock wobble. My SGL-21 does have a very slight mag wobble, but thats probably because I literally tried to break the Arsenal Bulgarian circle 10 mags out of the mag well to make sure I could rely on their quality. They passed with flying colors btw.

The paint job is the only thing that im not impressed with by Arsenal. They kinda went cheap on it. It seems like every time I drop it or it falls from its rest position beside my couch it has a new scratch... But its only cosmetic and does not interfere with its function. If that is a problem to you, you can just get it professionally parkerized.

Im am sure you will be happy with your purchase. The only other tip I can give you is; Buy quality accessories to put on your quality rifle. If you have any more questions, Ill be more than happy to help.

EDIT:
Didn't see your posts about warsaw and collapsible stocks.

Im 5'10" and the warsaw stock fits me fine. The only reason Im considering changing over to a collapsible stock is because I put a Krebs rear sight receiver rail on it because I like my optics closer to my eye since that increases the objective diameter of the optic. And it is impossible to get a proper cheek weld on a mounted optic with the factory stock. Thus I am looking into options for a riser to get a better cheek weld. Im currently looking at the magpul CTR stock with a 3/4" riser. Not 100% sure how it will work out so I can say anything good or bad about it at the moment. My suggestion is if the warsaw stock fits and your not planning on mounting an optic, stick with the warsaw length stock.
If you do decide to go with a collapsible stock for some reason, I would suggest staying away from Tapco. I havent seen their collapsible stocks fail yet, but I have seen their mags and their folding stocks fail. They do make a great trigger though. Also, I would suggest staying away from the Mako collapsible stock... My only basis for this claim is that its made from plastic, I have neither seen nor heard of any of their products failing, but if one were to, I would imagine it would be this one. I would go with a aluminum VLTOR collapsible stock adapter since I have only heard great reviews... Rock solid they say. Once you get that, find a reputable AR stock maker and find on that fits your budget and ergonomic needs.

Also do not underestimate the versatility of folding stocks, they are used alot on AK platforms for a reason. Their is a way to piece together a folding & collapsible stock, but im still looking into how to do that or if its even worth it.
