Arsenal AKs

I have several AKs already, but I've been thinking about getting an Arsenal, because they are supposed to be the best, from what I've read/heard; however, I looked at their website, and there is a dizzying array of choices. Can anyone advise me here?

I want to put an optic on it, and want synthetic furniture, and have been thinking about a 5.45.

Thanks

Yes, Arsenal's are excellent.

If you want a 5.45, I would suggest the SGL 31. (SGL 21 being the 7.62 version)

The 2 digits following that are the color codes. For example, I have an SGL 21-61 (7.62 w/ black furniture)

It may be easier to check out the list at Bud's

I've been considering getting one in 5.45 as well, just for the ridiculously priced ammo... $130 for 1000 rounds of rifle ammo is awesome.

I think you'll enjoy it. I was very surprised by the fit and finish quality. I'm just finishing adding some stuff to my Arsenal this week. Hope to get it to the range this weekend... I'm sure I'll post up some new pics.

One thing to note:
SLR-XXX rifles are made from Bulgarian parts kits on US made receivers (and other misc parts for 922(r) compliance).

SGL-XX rifles are made from imported Saiga (Russian) sporting rifles that are converted by Arsenal to AK pattern rifles and made 922(r) complaint. Most people like to go that route because you are getting a Russian made receiver and barrel.

SLR's are Bulgarian, yes... but they are not built on US made receivers.

From the Arsenal website:
"All SLR-107 rifles feature original Bulgarian made 1mm stamped receiver, original Bulgarian chrome lined hammer forged barrel..."

Well when you're right you're right. Even gives a list of what parts are from where on the K-Var website. I've never seen an AK receiver come into the country in one piece (outside of the Russian Saiga) before.

The 2 stage trigger is nice.
I know my SLR also came with the 2 stage trigger, and it is very nice. So much nicer than the Tapco single stage that people always use.

and SLR-XX (SLR-95's) are Bulgarian imports.

I also agree that the 2 stage trigger is pretty good for an AK trigger - obviously doesn't compare to something like a Geissele.

My new Midwest Extended rail for my SGL21 came today. Just finished installing it. I like it even more than I thought I would. The VLTOR stock adapter is to be delivered on Friday. Once I get that on, I'll be sure to take some pics and post up a decent review. I love the Arsenal's. For me, it gives the AK platform that justification as a 'nice' rifle... Where the WASRs and even the slightly better ones just never have that polished appearance. I guess that's why some people like them though... they're just beater guns. I'm consider having my Arsenal Cerakoted once I get the new stock adapter and stock installed. Something like a desert tan/flat dark earth/etc.. I'm in the AZ desert and I've never had a gun finished like that so I figured I might give it a shot. We'll see.

cmdc; as you can see, the Arsenal guns are well liked. If you're looking at picking one up, go for it. I think you'll be very pleased. Cheers.

Thanks, guys. I'll get back on their website and pick one. I'm going with the 5.45 because I don't have that caliber yet.

What about milled vs stamped?
