I was wondering if anyone knew where to get a army green stock and forend for my 870? I would like a tactical type setup. also can you paint a gun? I would like to paint a stock if I cant find one already colored. thanks.
I've never seen an 870 stock molded in green, only black, and orange for less-lethal rounds.
By all means you can paint the stock. Rustoleum has a line of camo paints that should do the trick, and Brownell's carries a couple different types, including some that are alledgedly easy to strip off. Lauer Custom Weaponry sells kits with templates and different colors tha look pretty neat.
I've been looking to find the same setup for my Win.1300. I recently saw the Rem.870 at a sporting goods store, setup with the OD synthetic stock with OD forend. I beleive it was listed as an 870 tacticle. I found the black and cammo at this site www.atigunstocks.com I ordered the extended tube and bracket from them with good delivery time . I may go ahead and get the black model.
In the general discussion forum, there was a thread on painting gunstocks, do a search and find it. It should have all the answers for you if you decide to paint it. I was going to paint the stock on my mossy 500.......and I still will....just as soon as I get around to it.
Painting it would actually be cheaper than a new stock anyway.
I just gave away my green Choate FN-FAL style stock and foreend for my 870. I had one for my 1100 also, but the times they are a changeing. I found the short normal configuration stocks to work better tactically in the REAL WORLD
I'd recomend the Duracoat (laurer). I've used in on my Keltec stock (synthetic), my 870 metal (over the parkerized job), and my AK I built. can't find the pics currently, but in order to get this stuff off metal you have to sandblast. To get it off synthetic you have to scratch it hard enough to scratch the plastic.
