armor piercing rnds

I've never heard of armor piercing rounds for any handgun. Do you mean FMJ? Armor piercing rounds have a Tungsten Carbide core that is much smaller in diameter than the bullet itself and is usually very pointed like a needle. Something that would be hard to do in a short, blunt, .40 bullet. The core is encased in lead inside the copper jacket. This is so that the rifling can engrave the bullet in a normal fashion. If it was simply a copper jacket over an extremely hard carbide core, the pressures would skyrocket, or possibly the rifling wouldn't even be able to engrave the bullet. The only armor piercing rounds that I'm aware of are loaded in rifle type ammo.;)

You can't.

As far as I know, no one is making anything that qualifies as armor piercing rounds for the .40.

Even if they were, I don't believe that you could legally own them.

Expecting Panzers to invade your neighborhood?

Okay Roscoe, what do you mean by armor piercing? Are you wanting to penetrate actual armor or do you want a round that will go through soft body armor as in to use for self defense against body armor wearing bad guys?

It may be possible to find 40 S&W rounds that will defeat body armor that would be perfectly legal and not classified as "armor piercing."

If you want something that will go through car doors, walls, windows, etc., look at what the FBI uses. If you want to shoot something that will penetrate REAL armor, join the army.

yes smal armor piercing rounds such as vests, is what i am trying to say. just in case someone breaks in to my house actually prepared to get shot.

Rosco,

You are better off learning and practicing "Failure Drills" than depending on Armor piercing rounds.

They were made for 9mm because of use in subguns.

KTW was a brand of armor piercing rounds, produced in the US until a law was passed banning so called "Cop-Killer bullets".

Whoever mentioned 7.62x25 was correct, that round is noted in its hotter forms to penetrate soft armor.

While possible the likelihood of most home invaders wearing body armor is small.
On the other hand it is very likely that home invaders will be armed...

Ammo designed to penetrate body armor as mentioned above would expend little energy into the target, passing through and becoming a down range hazard to others in your home.

Learn to shoot failure drills routinely, IMO.

Mike

Ah your talking about them illegal rounds, ask the ATF they will let you know what is legal and what isn't.
