Anyone seen one of the Armor International Mauser actions or barrelled actions from Alex Imports?

I think they are in the Gun List. Any reports?

P.S. Anyone know where I could find a FN Mauser .30-06 that would be a restock/refinish candidate? Any leads appreciated...

Anyone seen the ad? They are offering a .375 H&H in a synthetic stock for $400...

Are the actions any good?

DeBee,

You might scan the ads in Gun List for J.C. Higgins Model 50 rifles. I bought one last year in a pawn shop for $80. but the stock was a throwaway. They are an FN Mauser model 98. They came in .270 and .30-06 when new. Mine is a shooter. One inch groups with decent loads.

Thanks Clemson.

I'm off the Armor International actions since I can't find any info on them and heavily on to the FN actions...

My dealer showed me a J.C. Higgins .30-06 for $280-- the stock was yes, a throw away- a real club and it was in bad shape and gunbroker has a nice .270 J.C. Higgins showcased by a buxom woman (does she come with the gun???) also states the chrome lining? is flaking... I'll take the J.C. Higgins under consideration... but I am really holding out for a FN barrelled action or whole rifle with a beaten stock- a non-collector suitable for restocking by a skilled amateur who appreciates the art and the science of gunsmithing...

The search will continue...

I picked up my FN receivers from Springfield Sporters a few years back. They are military .30-06 stripped receivers made by FN in the '50's. You still have to come by all of the accessories which will drive the cost UP. An alterative is a VZ-24, a quality action if you are planning a custom rifle. Just my 2 pennies.

Ah Ha! I also have one of the FN military actions from Springfield Sporters actually a complete action which cleaned up beautifully with minimal work. I should have gotten the FN barrel to go with it. Any more left? This is the action that started my FN Mauser kick dammit... Sharp, new and rock solid-- coated with Rig on my bench awaiting to become a Hard Use Rifle perhaps- more preplanning necessary...

I figure the commercial FN Mauser has all the work already done to it. Drilled and tapped, bolt bent, polished, low scope safety(maybe)and the barrel should be good too... I'd like to drop it into a Richards Microfit Stock Black Walnut perhaps Claro with a fiddleback grain stained English Red...

I'm going gun hunting this weekend...
