Armalite AR 180B

I shot one of the earlier ones many years ago and it was well balanced and pretty accurate. Just saw a new one at my LGS and before I get my checkbook, does anyone have experience with it? I know it takes 'standard' AR magazines but I haven't had a chance to research it yet. Any help will be appreciated.

The 180B has a polymer lower, unlike the original 180 with its steel lower. Some users reported breakage at the forward pivot pin. This was reportedly traced to a bad batch of lowers, and corrected in later rifles.I saw and handled one recently at a gun show, and was favorably inclined towards it.Seemed well made and finished.I have an original AR180 made at the Costa Mesa plant, which is today pretty much a collectors item. The AR180B would make a nice shooter, and parts are available for it,although production has ceased.

We just sold an original Armalite Costa Mesa, Ca. AR-180 w/factory Armalite 4x scope and all accessories, unfired, unassembled NIB for $2000. This was an old one with the old open front "pickle fork" flash supressor and the guy was glad to pay it. So those original AR-180s can fetch a good price these days.

The other Armalite

Resurrecting an old thread instead of starting a new one.

One of my old shooting buddies has an original Sterling-built AR180. I really enjoyed shooting that rifle. I liked the feel and function, accuracy was in the 3 moa range, which is good enough for it's purpose. But, since he moved across the country a few years ago, I've been having the periodic recurring urge to buy one. Since the original AR180s are a bit steep for my income, I've been considering getting a "b" model.

I know a bit about the rifles, and am aware that I need to find one with the upgraded lower with the steel pivot area.
I was initailly turned off by the cheap feel of the buttstock on the B models, but I just found that Stormwerks makes a stock adaptor to fit an AR15 fixed stock or a M4 style collapsible unit, which intrigues me.

I was hoping to get some feedback form shooters that have actually owned a "B" model or have extensive experience with one. I'd like to know about durability, reliability, accuracy, etc.

May keep an eye out for one at the MWCA show in Minneapolis in a few weeks

I have had an AR-180B for about ten years now. The only problem I have ever had was when I shot some Wolf and then tried shooting brass cased ammo. That jammed the rifle up pretty good. No other problems.
I bought an adaptor and folding stock from Ace for mine.
The 180B is a fun lightweight rifle, I really like mine.
