Armalite AR-180B wholesale price?

I am intrigued by the new Armalite AR-180B. The Armalite website lists it at $590 retail. Does anybody know the dealer price for this rifle? I have wanted a semi-auto for awhile, but only have a Mini-14 budget. I don't think I would be satisfied with the accuracy of the Mini from what I have read about it, so this may be just what I have been looking for.

$480 dealer. My dealer was going to charge $555 + tax.
Ended up canceling and going with a Vepr II .223 for about the same price.
Anyone know Robarm dealer cost on a Vepr II in .223? My dealer advertises cost +10%, but I think they are charging more than that.

Vepr II pricing

My dealer charges friends only $10 for paperwork (can't beat that with a stick!). His cost from Robinson Arms is:

The VEPR II .223 $490.00 + shipping and sales tax
.308 $510.00 + shipping and sales tax

I worry about parts availability and repairs with the VEPR. I know that the receivers are different from the AKM's, but I'm not sure about the internal parts. If they are compatable that would make things much better. I like the looks of the Armalite and the fact that it is compatable with AR15 parts. But it is also a new product with unknown reliability and durability. The VEPR is undoubtably reliable and tough but I'm not sure about the ergonomics. The picture I have seen of it on their website shows the butt plate cut at a strange angle to that is not vertical. It also does not use a receiver sight like the Armalite. They are about the same price. Decisions, decisions.

If it is like the old AR180, it should be good to go. It's only about a 40 year old design by Gene Stoner. Only this one uses AR15 magazines, IIRC. The original used a proprietary mag. That's why I never bought one.

Higgins,

Last I heard, Armalite is saying they will begin shipping again in December. If you ordered recently, they are saying April/May 2002 delivery. Keep in mind they have been taking orders for nearly a year now.

ks_shooter,

Thanks for the info. It looks like im getting a decent price on my VEPR after all.

Stoner did not design the AR-18/180. IMHO, it is a better rifle than the M16 and much cheaper to produce. (I am referring to the original - I have not seen the AR-180B.)

Buy two...and find out from the maker what you need to carry as a parts kit...Besides...if you have to, you can always pick somethin' up after a fight...
