Armalite A10

An approximate version of what is true:
The Assault Weapons Ban restricted the manufacture of new magazines for the AR-10 for the current release we enjoy.Armalite took advantage of the M-14 magazine bodies that were already in existence, slightly modifying them and providing a different follower.

Someone may prove me wrong, but I do not believe the DPMS /Knight Armament magazine will work in an Armalite AR-10.Do more checking before you order a bunch of magazines.

The ArmaLite AR-10 that has released when the assault weapon ban was nation wide used a modified M14 magazine. ArmaLite has Gen I mags, converted M14 mags, and Gen II mags, these are a total ArmaLite design based on the M14 mag.

At the SHOT show last month ArmaLite announced they are releasing the NEW AR-10A, this model of the AR-10 uses SR-25 mags. Pmags are SR-25 mags.

The AR-10A uses a different upper, lower and some internal parts. It is NOT compatible with the older AR-10B that uses the M14 style mags.

Armalites are nice rifles I was in the AR 308 market 7 years ago when there were not as many manufactures in the AR 308 arena as today. I was looking at the Armalites at the time their lowest rifle cost was 1800.00 and up. I looked into the DPMS LR308s at the time and found a AP4 carbine OTD for 900.00 at a gun show,I still have that rifle it has been completely reliable and very accurate, and what I bought it for it's been a great little whitetail brush gun.
I would make the same purchase again.

I guess Armalite has a good following, warranty and customer service?

I am just looking for a reasonably priced decent quality 308 I can shoot out to 300 yards. I think Bud's has them for around 1350 when they are available. They don't stay around very long so I may jump on one the next email alert.

They have a very strong customer base, a life time warranty and from what I have read good CS. The only time I have contacted ArmaLite is the special order parts and CS has been great.

ArmaLite has dedicated section for the AR10 at arfcom.

The little Armalite I have(carbine) has been a good purchase. Ordering accessories/mags from them has been quick and trouble free. On warranty issues I have no experience. The rifle functions as expected. Came with no sights.

The Gen II mags for this particular rifle n the photo are the proprietary mags, rifle came with a 10 and a 20. I ordered a few of the 5 packs so the magazine issue isn't one. I think this is the rifle model you asked about and this is just a novice's opinion. It shoot's well below the stated accuracy when I mount a scope, which is a 1x4 with a 2 MOA dot. I think it's more like a consistant 1 - 1.5 MOA but the scope isn't much for that type of shooting. No range malfunctions in maybe 800 rounds. I get about 2.5" with iron sights. Like I mentioned...novice shooter, novice opinion.

My question is after modifying the M14 mags for the AR10 can those same mags still be run in an M14 platform reliably?

The rifles using first generation preban mags should, they are regular m14 mags with just a square ar type/style hole cut into the side. Don't see why they are ruined for use in an m14.

But the Gen II, the entire rear of the mag has a raised section from top to bottom approximating that block on the rear of an M14 mag. But it runs the entire length of the mag so it can't lock into an M14.

Flipside though, M14 mags could work in an Gen II rifle and back again in the M14 if they were modified, but there would be no bolt hold open in the AR-10 since that rides in that raised area.

+1

In a pinch you could use M14 mags in a AR10 with you used the sling to hold the mag in position.

I have about a dozen M14 mags and about a dozen AR10 mags, both Gen I and Gen II. You can easily confuse them at first glance. I've made that mistake just one time. Now I take both style rifles and all the mags to the range.
