Ark. Committee Supports Lifting Concealed-Carry Restrictions
2/5/01

The Arkansas House of Representatives Judiciary Committee approved a measure that would remove two of the 18 restrictions from the state law that authorizes concealed handgun permits, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported Jan. 17.

Under the proposed measure, Arkansans with concealed-handgun licenses would be allowed to carry their weapons into public parks and restaurants that serve alcohol.

"It's important we take these two restrictions off because a public park is no more than an extension of your home when you take your family to camp and when a person walks across a dark parking lot from a restaurant, he has a right to protect himself and his family, and this allows him to do that," said Rep. Randy Minton (R-Ward), who introduced the bill.

The legislation moves on to the full Arkansas House for consideration.
