Arizona Legality of sighting-in Night Vision Optics on a rifle?

I have heard it is illegal to fire a gun in Arizona after sundown unless in self defense... is this true?

All the public ranges around here close at sundown.

If I bought a night vision scope for my rifle, how on earth could I sight it in legally if I cannot shoot it at night?

Thanks for any advice.

I imagine if you have your own land, you are okay. I mean if you are in the middle of the desert...who is going to know anyway? Much less care or enforce it.

But I don't know.

Arizona is such a sparcely populated state that I'll bet you if there is such a law, everybody outside of Phoenix is in violation of it

Just based on this link I would say night shooting is legal in Arizona:

www.azgfd.gov said:
The construction will require that we temporarily suspend night shooting for about two to three months, beginning Saturday, Nov. 18. Until that time, night shooting will be available until 9 p.m. on normal days of operation (Wednesdays through Sundays) through Friday, Nov. 17. The suspension will allow for installation of a new electrical system and lights. Night shooting will resume at or near the end of the phase two construction, estimated in late January or early February.

“The construction work will unfortunately require a short-term stoppage of night shooting,” says Dana Yost, assistant director for information and education for Game and Fish. “Concentrating our efforts during this time period will enable us to get the entire center up and running sooner, providing a long-term benefit to our customers that will far outweigh the temporary interruption in night shooting. We are committed to getting the entire facility on line as soon as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience that this construction phase will cause to our customers.”

EDIT:
A couple more links:

we will have a night match - there are no lights at the range other than flashlights so everything will be done in low light.

Field three features lighting for night shooting and includes "Doubles" capability. Field four is also lighted for night shooting and features a "Wobble" trap.

I think most ranges close at nightfall is for safety and insurance purposes.
Check with AZ Game and Fish about night hunting. Some game, if not all, cannot be hunted with firearm at night.

Also on the American Shooter episode featuring Mike Dillon (thread link) they were shooting at night on his private land in Arizona. They were shooting machine guns at a lighted remote control plane. If I remember correctly there was some sort of explosive charge on the plane that made it explode if the right spot was hit. I am telling you guys, that episode may the coolest thing ever aired on TV.

The Arizona Gun Owner's Guide by Alan Korwin can be found at most local book stores and always at the gun shows for less than $15. Every Arizona shooter should have this book it is excellent. It tells you more of where you cannot shoot, rather than where you can. Still a very good book to have.... BUY IT!
