Are these sights fixable?

The sights on my gun are scratched up and its very noticable because the scratches made a big white mark on the side of the sights. (look at pic) Is there anything good I could use to fix this? Some kind of special paint or something? What if I just cave a light touchup with any good matte black spray paint or something... And if I have to buy new sites now, would these sights fit? http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=179335

Thanks everyone, any advice on how I can fix this for a reasonable price is greatly appreciated.

Are they deep scratches? - are they on both sides?

It looks like someone installed the sight themselves and marred them when doing so.

If they're not too deep, you could probably touch them up with a magic marker. But if they're deep, then you might want to smooth that surface first - and then use magic marker :D

I've had good luck w/ Sharpie 'Industrial' pens - these are designed to write on metals.

Either way, you just want to make sure that the finished surface will resemble the rest of the sight surface cosmetically. But I don't think that you need a special paint or to throw the sight away..

My problem is similar to yours, but my sights are fine yet the surrounding area of the slide has been marred (thanks to a hasty, careless install by yours truly). Now, I will be having my slide refinished in the near future, but for now its merely cosmetic, so no rush necessary.

Regarding your specific situation, as mentioned before, use a finishing pen/marker or hit it with spray paint. Outside of that, I cant think of what else you might do other than replacing the sight itself. Keep in mind, it may look ugly, but if its functional..well, thats what matters most.

What I would do to that. Get a brass/nylon headed hammer and a large brass punch. (I'm assumeing you do not have a sight tool or want to go to a gunsmith) Carefully use the hammer and punch to remove the sight. Smooth up the area to remove scratches. Repaint the entire sight with several coats. Do not use a gloss paint. Reinstall sight. I usually use something soft between the sight and the punch just in case.

Or you could just use a sharpie marker.:D

Since they are light scratches

Why not try some black boot/shoe polish? Easy to apply with your finger in a rag, let it dry and buff lightly with a rag. When it wears off, re apply :D

Those look pretty fixable with either a black marker or black paint. As far as replacing them, I believe that the TRP comes with Novak sights on it so the replacement sight you picked should fit.

There are gun blue and gun black pens available for about $6 that you can use. I got a blue pen to touch up some nicks on a revolver, seems to work pretty well. I got it at Bass Pro

I use the pens.
They are pretty good.

A gunsmith once told me the best paint for matt black touchup on a firearm is black grill paint. I have never tried it but he says its very durable.

They used to have a couple of products called Liquid Steel and Liquid Aluminum. You could fill the scratches and paint with heatproof paint.

I had a lawnmower that burned oil one time. I spread Liquid Steel all op and down the cylinder and honed it smooth. It never burned oil again.
